giveaway: $100 amazon giftcard (*second round*)

Click the link below to read all about the review and GIVEAWAY! :)

This is a sponsored review from BlogHer and Seattle’s Best.

Huge thanks to everyone who participated in the first giveaway this month from Seattle’s Best Coffee! As promised, here is the second giveaway with a rockin’ $100 giftcard from Amazon, and the results of my own taste test of the new “levels”!

As mentioned in my last post, Seattle’s Best has recently introduced a new “levels” system for labeling their coffees. Instead of individual names (like what was formerly “Henry’s Blend”), they now range from “Level 1″ (mild, light and crisp) to “Level 5″ (bold, dark and intense). Each coffee also includes flavor profiles and amusing character profiles. For example, the personality test pegged me at “Level 2″, for those who are “spontanteous and fun, you’re a curious optimist. Fond of going off the beaten path, you enjoy creating your own adventures and seeing where your heart leads you.

Read on to see if the taste-testing agreed with the levels profiles, and to enter the $100 Amazon giftcard giveaway!

Dum, dum, dum…..THE RESULTS!

Now I have to admit, I went to a tour of one of our local roasteries in Kansas City a year ago and learned the method for proper coffee “cupping” (taste-testing) which involved lots of loud slurping and spitting…but very little drinking. So for my less-than-proper coffee taste-testing at home, I decided to reverse that. Lots of coffee drinking. Minimal slurping. :)

For the first day of the week, I woke up extra early and decided to make a very small batch of each of the 5 levels, in order to truly be able to compare them! Then each of the following days, I made and enjoyed a full cup of each level to get the full experience. Lots. Of. Coffee.

In the end, I did honestly enjoy Level 2 quite a bit. But Level 5 was the definite favorite. This didn’t come as a huge surprise to me, since I love strong flavors in my food and all kinds of hot and cool drinks. And this Level 5 didn’t disappoint. Labeled as having a “roasty aroma, rich flavor with low acidity and body”, this coffee smelled absolutely heavenly, and tasted even better. Reminded me quite a bit of a French roast. It was wonderful served warm and steamy in the morning, and then cooled down later over ice in the afternoon. Delish!

So would definitely encourage you to check out the new coffees for yourself in stores, or read about the levels system online. And then enter to win the $100 Amazon giftcard giveaway below!

The way I prepare coffee at home does not result in a great cup of coffee. I use a decades-old Mr. Coffee drip maker. It no longer brews or keeps the coffee hot enough. If I win this prize, maybe I will invest in either a single-cup coffee brewer or a french press. Maybe then I’ll have a favorite way. I love to drink my coffee Black (strong & hot). Thanks for the giveaway.

I am absolutely devoted to Seattle’s Best Level 2. I go to bed at night looking forward to making a pot in the morning! Even though my husband doesn’t drink coffee, he loves the smell of it brewing. So if he is up before me, he will have a lovely pot ready when I wake. I was becoming worried in recent months that I’d have to switch to decaf, but I have never found a decaf that I like. I tried Level 2 just to give it a shot, and I was soooo happy. I got the flavor I love and just enough of a boost without making me climb the walls. I recommended it to as many friends as I could, and several of them are now converts too!

  73. I add hot chocolate to my coffee…my form of cappacino. :-)

I put on coffee first thing when I get up each day. I start with chilled, filtered water and a quality brand of coffee (I have been experimenting with lots of premium brands of coffee lately). I like to drink it with 1 tsp of sugar and a splash of milk.

  82. I love to make coffee at home using my age old espresso machine, and then I foam some milk using my aerolatte! Top it off with some white choc syrup and I am happy as a clam. :)

  83. French press coffee is yummy!

  84. Instant, but a coffee maker would be handy!

  85. french press please!

  86. I love making my coffee by getting ground coffee, usually Dunkin Donuts brand, and making it using my coffee machine. Add a little bit of sugar, milk, and cinnamon and it’s good to go!

  87. I love making coffee in my Cuisinart 12-cup coffee maker. It has a 4-cup setting, and a timer, which is perfect for weekday mornings when I’m in a rush to get to work! It makes the smoothest coffee and brightens up my day from the very beginning!

  88. We grind the beans and use our 4-cup coffee maker. Just the right amount!

  89. I’ve just recently become a coffee fan but my husband always makes it via french press!

  90. I am a college student, so I have my little 4 cup drip coffee brewer in my dorm that I frequently turn to. I usually use one heaping Tablespoon per cup and then add some organic half and half to make a creamy, tasty brew.

  91. When I put my coffee in my drip coffee machine, I love adding extra spices to the grounds like nutmeg or cinnamon. It adds great taste to the coffee!

  92. using my “greca” — a stovetop coffee maker from the dominican republic, i make a soy cafe con leche

  93. I use my Braun electric-drip coffeemaker to get my fix. No sugar, unsweetened soy milk!

  94. My favorite way to prepare coffee is with the “help” of my 2 1/2 year old. He loves to count the number of scoops that I put into the electric coffee maker and then pretend to drink a cup of coffee with me later while saying, “Mmm. Good coffee Mama!”

strong coffee with a lot of milk, one sugar or s/f vanilla syrup, like a latte

  97. My morning routine…husband grinds and brews early, the aroma wafts into the bedroom, kids awaken, I drag myself to the machine for a cup of awake, with lots of cream, no sugar. All day long, from my trusty thermos, the beans of life keep me moving, through teaching, coaching, transporting. The level is not important. What is is relevant is the aroma, the taste, the perk that fulfills the need to be.

  98. i buy bottled or instant coffee from the grocery store. a coffee machine would be handy.

I use a 12 cup coffeemaker, I enjoy a cup of coffee with splenda or equal and cream.

  103. My husband and I use a french press every morning. When we’re feeling ‘in the mood’ we’ll make lattes on our espresso maker. Yes, we’re coffee snobs. ;-)

  104. Coffee in a french press is my favorite way to enjoy coffee at home!

  105. I retweeted your tweet about your giveaway, but I’m not sure how to link to the tweet itself. Here’s the link to all of my tweets though. http://twitter.com/#!/RuthDosch

  106. I’m incredibly lucky in that my apartment complex has a keurig single cup coffee maker with free coffee in the community center. They always have a good selection of 12 or so coffees and teas and are constantly rotating new products in, so I love trying the new ones that they bring in.

  107. I <3 French press coffee!

  108. One packet of splenda and a splash of half n’ half.

  109. I love lattes!

  110. My favorite way to prepare coffee at home is with a French press. I make it medium-strength then mix it with milk, a little sugar, and maybe some vanilla syrup, stick it in the ‘fridge and enjoy as an iced coffee the following day!

  111. I totally agree with my sister ^ Megan, french press is the best! There is nothing better than a cup of french pressed coffee in the morning!

  112. I love french pressed coffee! I don’t have time to make it that way much anymore but it is still my favorite!

  113. I dream of having a french press one day, but right now I’m using a good ol’ electric coffeepot. I use some salt in the grounds to remove bitterness, and then when it’s in my cup, I throw in a splash of creamer.

    I am super lame. >.<

  114. I tweeted abut the giveaway

  115. We use a coffee maker

  116. I make mine in a boring regular coffee maker, french vanilla with sugar and extra cream

  119. Normal brewing but with lots of creamer.

  120. oh dear- we don’t really drink coffee at home, but i do give in and get flavored cappucino mix sometimes (french vanilla usually). Not the same i know, but i’m much more a tea girl (i have an entire section of my cupboard full of tea, and at our old apartment we had this little, not very deep cupboard that i declared was made to hold boxes and bags of tea;P)

  121. I’m a huge iced coffee fan. I brew it in my regular coffee maker and then throw it in the fridge for the next day.

French press all the way! My favorite coffee is Urgandan beans that our friends roast in Iowa! And when I’m feeling really luxurious, I like to nibble on squares of dark chocolate with it!

  129. My Mr Coffee maker that has a timer, so I can preset it and wake up to fresh coffee brewing in the dorm. It’s the one thing that can actually get me out of bed!

i like to just prepare some expresso and add that into small things from time to time, such as hot chocolate, puddings, and cake

  132. my favorite way is to brew a pot of pre-ground coffee. I then add a ton of sugar and milk. So I actually fix a sweet latte.

  133. My favorite way to make coffee at home is to get in my car and head to Starbucks! :) I don’t actually drink regular “grown up” coffee but I LOVE frappucino’s!!!

I like to make a homemade latte; I fill a cup with about 3/4 milk/creamer, make really strong coffee, add 1 sugar, or some s/f vanilla syrup and heat up tastes just as good and a lot cheaper

  135. Normal brewing but with lots of creamer and sweetner.

  136. I love making homemade pumpkin spice lattes with frothed soymilk, coffee, vanilla and pumpkin puree. Yum!!

  137. I’m all about the French Press… Dark roast… a little sugar and cream…. heaven!

  138. Iced!

  139. Normal brewing but lots of cream and sweetener. My favorite right now is sugar free brown sugar cinnamon syrup. Yummy!

  140. I have a wonderful, amazing, fantabulous coffee maker that makes the best best coffee. I’m a big coffee drinker and love using it in everything from beef marinades to cheesecake when cooking.

A tiny pinch of salt in the dry grounds will remove any hint of bitterness. A bit of cinnamon is always good, but my all time favorite on a cold grey morning is to put about half a packet of instant cocoa mix in the brewed cup. Instant poor man’s mocha!

  142. French press!

  143. My favorite way to make coffee at home is just with a regular electric-drip coffeemaker. Nothing special. I like the coffee itself very strong and black, no cream or sugar.

  144. I got a little espresso machine for Christmas, and my favorite way to make coffee is to make a homemade latte! So much cheaper than going out each time I want one.

  145. most days it’s generally a dark roast with cream and sugar, but on occasion I throw some hot chocolate mix in.

  146. And I tweeted it from @mischiefml.

  147. I use a pour-over cone, and find the coffee is more consistent when I use fresh ground whole beans, though I like the convenience of already-ground. I found that the coffee from my coffee machine was inconsistent and bad, but this method seems to work great so far and I love not having the coffee machine on my counter any longer.

  148. I like to use a French Press to prepare my coffee.

  149. I prefer brewing Roasterie coffee at home…love it from a French Press but don’t always take the time does that, so usually brew via drip coffee maker!

  154. I usually drink coffee at my mother-in-laws. She uses a regular drip coffee maker. I just add milk and sugar.

  155. My favorite way to drink coffee is freshly grinding the grounds, then brewing like normal, and finally adding dark chocolate almond milk into it. So delicious, better than a mocha you can buy at Starbucks.

  156. I keep it simple! :-) Mmm

  157. i love to have a simple coffee, that just wakes me up in morning and gets me going….

  158. I put brown sugar in with the coffee grounds;)

I occasionally like to mix in a little milk with a little chocolate syrup or a packet of hot chocolate mix for a Saturday morning “linger over the coffee” treat.

  160. Good old fashioned drip coffee with cream and sugar, sometimes iced!

  161. I love to doctor up my coffee (big time) and make homemade lattes!

  162. I prefer a good french press coffee.

  163. I like my coffee w/ a bit of flavored cream and some skim milk. Yummy.

  164. Yum! drip with cinnamon, raw sugar and cream. :)

  165. I don’t drink coffee but I’ll admit to liking the smell! At home, we have a sturdy coffeepot to help us out. :)

  166. Nice & dark, with a splash of half & half.

though I’m eager to try Amy’s w/ orange peel and cinnamon…

  167. Coffee with milk and honey

Would probably level 2 (with flavored creamer of course)!

  169. I like to put cinnamon in my coffee!

  171. We just use a regular coffee maker and add milk and sugar.

  172. keurig coffee brewer all the way :)

  173. What a generous giveaway! Thanks for the chance to win. I love Seattle’s Best coffee, but my favorite way to make it at home is with my Tassimo ;)

  174. I also just tweeted about this giveaway http://twitter.com/6bittersweets

  175. Sadly my current way of preparing “coffee” at home is using instant powder hehe. But if I won this giftcard I’d purchase a stovetop espresso maker that I’ve been wanting and then I’d love to try out these different levels of coffees too.

  176. Simple drip coffee right out of the Bunn with a little Hazelnut creamer…Mmmm

  177. I make espresso in my stovetop maker almost every day. It reminds me of studying abroad in Italy.

  178. I prefer to AeroPress my coffee. Smoothest coffee I’ve ever had. In fact, it was the first time I never felt a need to add cream or sugar to my coffee. I can finally appreciate the nuances of lighter roast coffees. Not to mention the 30 second brew time and 10 second cleanup. :)

i like to mix cooled coffee with vanilla ice cream to make a milkshake.

  180. Simple drip coffee with skim milk in the morning

  181. French press, served with heavy cream and family members, is unbeatable.

  182. Very simple… Blue mountain, freshly ground right then and there, served up in my favorite super-sized mug, black. THAT is the best start to my day.

  183. My favorite way to prepare coffee at home is in a cheap drip cone with a paper filter…I just heat up water in a kettle and pour over. Good enough to drink black! :)

  184. I use the seattle’s best level 2 and i add some le creme vanilla creamer. It’s the best!

  185. I roast my own coffee beans – talk about fresh!

I always like to try new coffee and these sound good :)

  186. “normal” coffee, over ice, with a dash of chocolate syrup. Not so healthy but oh so yummy!

  187. We usually use a french press. Makes a very fresh, one cup or so at a time. And no burned coffee.

  188. In our house coffee is only ever in a French press, black. Does that make us boring? :-)

  189. How fun! I like to put a little orange peel and cinnamon in my coffee grounds before brewing it- it turns out so flavorful!

  190. Good old normal brewing.

  191. Yum, I love Seattle’s Best! It reminds me of a cruise I took 2 years ago because that was the coffee they had onboard. I’m not very picky when it comes to home brewing – a simple dark drip coffee is enough to get me going in the morning!
