How To: Make Homemade Whipped Cream In 30 Seconds!

Last week I posted on Instagram my favorite way of making homemade whipped cream with a hand/immersion blender. And I immediately received a bunch of emails and comments from people who had never tried it, and had questions about what a hand blender actually does. So since we happen to be giving away a KitchenAid hand blender this week, thought it might be a fun time to post a quick tutorial!

This method is definitely not rocket science. But it is super easy, quick, and requires much less work doing dishes than if you were using a large stand mixer or food processor! And since hand blenders are so small and portable, this is also a great option if you are taking a dessert to a party and want to make some homemade whipped cream topping there on the spot. (Or, if you get asked to make some homemade whipped cream for a kittens photo shoot on location at work, I learned from experience this also randomly works well for that!)  Oh the possibilities. :)

Well however you like to use your homemade whipped cream, here is my quick how-to for how to make it:

  1. I find that the best way to make a perfect whipped cream is to put the bowl and the mixer in the fridge 30 minutes before whipping it. Having all the appliances properly chilled helps a lot!

    • No need to put bowl in the freezer anymore with this method.
Yes always add a bit of vanilla and powder sugar for whipped cream.

Only thing is that it is hard to gauge what level of doneness you want the whipped cream. But who really cares, this is an awesome idea thanks for sharing!

  2. nothing beats (haha, punny) homemade whipped cream! i don’t have an immersion blender, but this looks like an awesome way to make it!

  3. Wonderful! Great way to make a couple of servings for a weeknight dessert.

  4. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand now I want whipped cream

  5. Immersion blender – GENIUS Ali!!! Wow, never thought to put the trusty immersion blender into my heavy whipping cream. For this, i worship you ;)

  6. I just got a hand blender from Kitchen Aid so you know I’m totally giving this a try! I actually just bought a tub of cool whip since I was too lazy to use my mixer for it but this – yeah, this is too easy.

  7. Did I do something wrong? My whipped cream didn’t set. I made it once before and it worked… the 2nda time it never formed peaks. It got thicker but not enough.

  8. LOVE the easy way to do this! Why didn’t I think of this??? LOL! Worked great I added a little vanilla too. For our kiddos I put between 2 homemade graham crackers (or organic store bought) and freeze….tastes pretty good almost like ice cream sandwiches!
Thanks for the easy idea/clean up using the hand blender instead of the big old Kitchen Aid stand mixer!

  9. Until I read this info on the web my Braun hand blender I got for my wedding years ago was in my box to donate. Took it back out, used it to make my whip cream …Voila! WOW! Effortless and Definitely a healthier option!

    merci beaucoup

  10. I make whip cream all the time but, I’ve never heard of using powdered sugar. I guess I will have to give it a try.

  11. what cream is advisable for a perfect whip?

  12. Amazing! This is the only way I will ever make whipped cream!!! Thanks a million Ali for this post! ;-)

  13. I’m really disappointed that this didn’t work for me. Now I have to get in the car and go by that premade frozen whipped cream that I hate. My hand mixer is broken and all I have is an immersion mixer!

  14. While at the grocery, I bought Cool Whip (yuck) and decided to try heavy whipping cream as my failed batch was with light cream.
This time it worked with the immersion blender did in record time!
I don’t have a hand mixer any longer as got finger stuck in the beaters and decided not to buy another one!
I’ve found that I really don’t need a mixer for any reason other than making whipped cream so thanks for the tip!

  15. do u have to use a blender\

  16. can you use half n half by chance?

  17. This was perfect, thank you! My first time making whipped cream. Used raw heavy cream, dash of vanilla extract, and a pinch of sea salt with the hand blender.  x

  18. Its very easy to make whipped cream at home.

  19. This is super quick! What blender do you use for making whipped cream?

  20. I just need to ask CAN YOU USE A BLENDER TO DO THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Yes, it seems that you can…https://littleloveydoves.blogspot.com/2013/08/blender-whipped-cream-oh-yes.html

  21. Used my new HSN immersion blender(one with stick on top) and it worked awesome with skim milk and whip attachment, was more frothy than hard though. Used 2% milk and did nothing but froth, didn’t set as a cream. Gonna try this later, need to buy heavy cream!

    • Awesome, thanks for sharing, Marcie! We’re surprised it worked with the skim milk — that’s very cool!

  22. Do i need to use whisk attachment of blender ?

  23. how long does it stay whipped. will it separate if left for a while?

    • We find that if you keep it longer than a day, you might need to re-whip it. We hope this helps!

  24. Yum! Turns out to be very easy. This is the best way to try out my new hand blender. Wonderful:D

  25. is it necessary to add cream of tatar or alternative to heavy cream ?

    • It’s not necessary, it just helps keep the peaks stiff and helps the whipped cream hold its shape for awhile after making it. The only alternative to heavy cream would be coconut milk (full fat, from the can). We hope this helps!

  26. The individual frames of this video seem frozen and there’s no sound. Is something wrong with your video player?

  27. i make but it not turns hard tell me plz we are using hand belnder .

    • Hi Arham! By hand blender, do you mean mixer? If so, you need a whisk attachment as the beaters won’t work. We hope this helps!

  28. loved your stir fried rice! It was a big hit! Trying the slaw dressing next!

  29. Thanks for sharing this recipe with us. amazing blog.
