Happy December, friends!

Hope that this holiday season finds each of you well, and snuggled up somewhere this weekend with a nice crackling fire or a warm mug of hot cocoa with some twinkly lights nearby. ✨

Here in Barcelona, the Christmas season is already in full swing, and the city is abuzz with all sorts of fun and quirky Spanish and Catalan traditions everywhere we turn. Like, truly. From the cool way they do Christmas lights here (which would make Clark Griswold proud), to some brand-new-to-us traditional Christmas foods (yum), to the extra holidays they celebrate after the 25th to keep the festivities rollin’ (St. Stephen’s Day and Epiphany), to the infamous Caganers and Caga Tío (oh my goodness, who knew that Christmas could involve so much pooping?!)…this season is so much fun here in Barcelona, and it’s making us fall crazy in love with this city even more.

So! We thought that it would be fun to bring you along with us for our first Christmas here in Barcelona. So today, we’re kicking off a short series of videos to show you a new tradition each week or so. Beginning today with…

…Christmas markets!! ?? ?? ? ?

Turns out that Christmas markets are a Very Big Deal here in Barcelona each year. And this past weekend, they magically popped up all over town and having been buzzing 24/7 with locals and tourists ever since. The largest market in town happens to be just down the street from our flat, so we thought we’d bring you with us as we walk down to check it out (and then come home with a very special treasure in tow).

Hope you enjoy, and stay tuned soon for another very merry video to come!

  15. I giggled out loud as you showed us your completed Nativity. LOVED the elephant holding the artichoke and the angel with the whisk. Soooo funny.

  20. So much fun!!!

  21. Oh my gosh – the funniest line of the whole video is “since Mary has been pregnant she hasn’t been able to have soft cheeses, so we got her some.” Too funny!!

  24. Hi Ali,

Your video footage of the Christmas market with both your and Barclay’s commentary/narrative makes me wish I was on holiday during Christmas time in Barcelona again this year!

Well shot and edited too ;). Most of all, I just love watching about your new adventures there!

    Thanks for sharing!

PS: I roamed around with a Tabasco bottles the 5 days I was visiting Barcelona (and had to purchase another two during the trip!). It wasn’t the same as proper spicy Mexican or Asian chilies so I feel your pain! Hopefully some of the delicious and exciting tapas are making up for the lack of spice! :)

  25. Loved every second of this. Thanks for bringing us along with you guys!

  26. Thank you for sharing this great video. have a great weekend.
    Marie

  27. Love all the videos you are sharing from Barcelona!! What equipment do you use to shoot your videos? Are you using some sort of selfie stick to capture shots of you while walking? What editing program do you use? Thanks so much! Happy holidays in Spain!

  29. Enjoying every moment! Thank you both for sharing what most of us will never experience! ❤️

I have just within the last few weeks come across your blog and since cooking is my most favorite thing in the world to do I’m enjoying it very much I did send an inquiry to you about why I am not getting a glaze on the candied pecans and perhaps you’ll be able to send me a reply because I’m new to this site I have no idea why you’ve moved to Barcelona I’ve been there a number of times and love love love the city so perhaps in one of your messages to bring me up-to-date and all the rest of the people who may be new you can tell us why you have to move to Barcelona
