Fall Breeze by Leonid Afremov

Happy first day of autumn, friends!

I have to admit that this day always feels a little bittersweet for this summer-loving girl. While everyone else has been breaking out the pumpkin and chunky sweaters this month, I have been making coconut margaritas and playing Death Cab and freezing my toes off in flip flops and booking tickets for an upcoming beach vacation. It would be quite alright with me if summer spontaneously decided to pack its bags and stay awhile longer. :)

But as much as I love summer, I do really love the idea of seasons in life, and seasons changing. So if we must move on from summer, I suppose a beautiful season like fall will do. (Although autumn seems to me a much lovelier word, so we’ll stick with that.)  So today I started making a little list of things I’m looking forward to about this season. So far, I have…

What about you? Do you love this season? What’s on your list this autumn?

  1. I love exercising outdoors in the fall. You never get too hot but yet you can still wear a long-sleeved running top or yoga pants. It’s heaven. <3 Oh and apple picking, obvs.

    • Yes!! And ooh, maybe we can all go for a morning or evening walk while you’re in town! (Clearly, I want you to do All The Things while you’re here. Maybe you should just bring that cute family of yours and winter down in KC for a few months…you know…) ;)

  2. Apple Pie

  3. Pumpkin everything! halloween, thanksgiving, cooler weather (even in Hawaii!)… oh and my birthday

  4. I’m a cliche – any recipes involving pumpkin and apple are on my list!

  5. I love Leonid Afrimov’s paintings. They are so beautiful and always remind me of fall. I also love the coolness of fall…such a nice change from these hot Texas summers!

    • Oh my goodness, aren’t his paintings amazing? Love those vibrant colors.

I’m coming to winter in Texas this February, by the way! :)

  6. I love the switch from crisp, refreshing summer white wines to the slightly heavier, sometimes spicy light reds (like a Pinot Noir or a Grenache).

  7. It’s all about the candles for me…right now I have a mulled cider one I picked up at walmart of all places, but it smells like H-E-A-V-E-N!

  8. That is my favorite tea too! It is the best on fall/winter mornings:) my favorite things about fall are the clothes, colors, and food! I love anything with apples, pumpkin, winter squash, and cinnamon. Lots of cinnamon!

    • Isn’t that tea the best?!? Even better, I discovered last winter that they now sell it at Target in the cutest little tins. (And in decaf online!!)

      Yes, I’m a little obsessed. ;)

  9. Oh this whole list sounds alright with me ;) I used to love summer until it morphed into “humid as hell season” here in Austria a few years ago.

Now to be perfectly honest I enjoy fall to the fullest. All the scarves, hearty soups, to actually be able to cook again and bake something in the oven contrary to think of recipes that require as little cooking as possible during summertime.

It´s also the time when I am switching from iced lattes to hot coffee with cinnamon. Bliss.

    Have a lovely day!

    • That’s so cool that you’re in Austria! Did you know I was there in July?? (And yes, I have to admit it was pretty toasty, especially sans air conditioning most places.)

I love this list though, especially cinnamon coffee. :)

  10. Okay I give up: What is a book club camp out?

  11. Great list, Ali! Fall is my favorite! I love the crisp autumn air, cozy scarves, the beautiful fall leaves, going apple picking with my family, baking apple crisp, drinking hot apple cider, basically anything involving apples :)
