the flask

Hobbit flask created by Stellar Custom Images

Let’s talk about that Hobbit flask. You get a 6 oz stainless steel flask sporting the vivid vintage book cover of The Hobbit; plus care instructions to ensure you can enjoy your flask for a long, long time. Stellar Custom Images‘ designs are coated with a thick epoxy resin that protects against the elements, so you don’t have to worry about your favourite Hobbit flask scratching or peeling. You may forget your pocket-handkerchiefs, but don’t leave behind your Hobbit flask the next time you run out the door on a dragon adventure.

Whether you turn out to be the lucky winner or you choose to buy a flask, you will appreciate the quality and clean simple detailing of Angela’s work. Be sure to check out the other designs she has and note that Angela can create custom flasks as well. Don’t forget to order a sweet flask-sized funnel, too.

the tote

Not all those who wander are lost — technically this quote is from Tolkien’s sequel to The Hobbit, but it’s still fitting for Hobbit week. Can’t you picture Bilbo carrying around just such a tote; filled of course with extra pocket-handkerchiefs, pipe tobacco, and probably some seed cakes in case he had to miss second breakfast. What would you fill your tote with?

Tote is made of 100% natural cotton canvas {10oz.} with a strong bottom gusset and is 15″ square by 4″ deep.

HandmadeandCraft is currently closed for vacation so you can’t shop Kimberly Layton’s creations today, but go check out her blog, Everything Etsy, and say hi.

  1. I have only read The Hobbit twice…but I have read the LOTR 5 times over. Currently on round 6!

    • yeah, I think I’ve now read The Hobbit three or four times and the LOTR six, maybe seven times. so good every time.

once I took Fellowship with me to Ireland and finished it faster than I expected and ended up buying a copy of Two Towers because I couldn’t wait until I got home to start it again. :)

  2. Smaug is by far my favorite character in the hobbit :)

  3. And apparently I can’t read instructions ;) I’ve read the Hobbit probably around 4 or 5 times, starting with 5th Grade! It was a book for class! :) One of my all time favorites in required reading! :)

    • Seriously. I never got to read it as “required reading” – but how amazing that reading The Hobbit could be your homework??

  4. I love this so much. I’m going to be so jealous of whoever wins it!

  5. Love Samwise Gamgee!!

  6. Okay, I need to read a bit better. I do love Samwise Gamgee. I’ve only started to read the book this past year. I’m a late bloomer :)

  7. I’ve read at least half a dozen times. And my fave is Galadriel! Always and forever.

    • you’ve read The Hobbit 6 times – or LOTR? (or both)

whose your favourite character in The Hobbit? (Galadriel doesn’t show up until LOTR; crazy to think of all the great characters that didn’t even exist yet in Tolkien’s imagination when he first wrote The Hobbit)

  8. I’ve always wanted a flask. This is my chance.

  9. I’ve read it only once, but always memorable.

  10. Love Bilbo for his internal tug of war between his hobbity homebodyishness (new words!) and his secret yen for adventure, provided it is an adventure on a full stomach.

  11. Those posters are pretty great!! I might have to get one even *if* I don’t win this!

  12. such an awesome giveaway!!

  13. Waiting to watch the movie!

  14. I’ve read it once and I’m very excited for the movie!

  15. I’ve only read the book once, and I’m overdue to read it again. M favorite character is Gandalf.

  16. i’ve only read it once, but its a classic that i’m definitely going to re-read soon!

  17. I actually have only read half of it

  18. Zero! Haha so far…..

  19. These are great. The Hobbit has always been my husbands favorite and I finally read it at the beginning of the year, it was wonderful.

  20. I couldn’t even say I read it a few times I believe when I was younger and am about to read it again. Maybe 3 then.

  21. I love hobbits!!!! Went immediately after I got out of work last night! Awesome film, amazing books, incredible contest! Love those prints– Harshness is awesome!

  22. I’ve only read it once, but the new movie has inspired me to revisit Tolkien’s world.

    • yes! I love how the movies make you want to read the books. That isn’t always the case; but even as good as the movies are (and they are my favourite movies!), they are not enough in and of themselves — I need the books, too.

  23. I’ve read The Hobbit two or three times now. Either way, it’s awesome every time.

  24. I haven’t read it yet, but I’ve already asked “Santa” for JRR Tolkien’s LOTR books and I know I’ve been good this year. ;)

  25. Have read the Hobbit at least twice. Sacrilegious, but I think I preferred the Hobbit over LoTR as a 12 year old. Though the LoTR movies were EPIC, not to mention the soundtrack. So gorgeous.

  26. I’ve only read the Hobbit a few times, but Lord of the Rings, too many times to count!

Gandalf is my favorite, but I feel like that was heavily influenced by my Grandpa reading the book to me when I was really young.

  27. I’ve read “The Hobbit” once and loved it!

  28. I’ve only read The Hobbit once.
