Oh man, I am way late to the adding-oatmeal-to-your-smoothies party.

(Seriously, how did I miss this?!)

But whatever, better late than never because I’ve got an oatmeal smoothie recipe to share with you today that literally tastes just like an oatmeal cookie. But this one is minus the guilt because it’s made with healthy everyday ingredients, that also happen to be vegan and gluten-free.

I know I’ve never said this before, but you’ve gotta try it. ;)

I’ve been making this smoothie all week as a little treat after my morning workout, and it feels exactly like that — a treat.

All of the ingredients in it are totally good for you. But when combined together, they taste like the most decadent sweet dessert, thus also making this one of those smoothies that you could enjoy just about anytime of the day. Here’s how to make it:

The key to using oats in your smoothies is to ground them up first. Just pop them in your blender and pulse about 3-5 times until they’re nice and smooth. (It takes 2 seconds!)

Then add in the rest of your ingredients — including the vanilla and spices that will have it tasting extra oatmeal-cookie-ish, and pulse until smooth.

The result will be one delicious smoothie that will give you lots of fiber and energy to get through the day. And it can even satisfy those cookie cravings if you’re looking for a healthier alternative.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

  1. I’m so excited to try this recipe tomorrow.

Just an FYI, your Pinterest link at the bottom of this post doesn’t got to the right account.

  2. Try adding a tablespoon or so of peanut butter or almond butter. Mmmm!

  3. Love this idea! Can I use skim milk in place of the almond milk?

  4. How many calories are in the smoothie?

  5. I’m wondering the same as Holly — smoothie says “skinny,” but where’s the nutritional info?

  6. This recipe is really good ! Thank you for posting it.

  7. sounds yummy! will try in the morning. thanks. #veryveggie

  8. So delicious! I have made this twice and really enjoy it. Truly does taste like oatmeal cookies and is very filling. I substitute the almond milk for skim cows milk though because of food allergies and I added a scoop of vanilla bean protein powder to my smoothie. Really great recipe, looking forward to continue making this :)

  9. Trying this with a tbsp of organic gluten free cacao and coconut crime to give this a chocolate shake flavor. May add Stevia drops, but think it will taste just fine without sweetness.

  10. I added a vanilla protein powder and used steel cut oats.
    Yummy! Thanks!

  11. I made this smoothie over the weekend and loved it! Thanks for the recipe! I’ll definitely make again.

  12. This was the bomb diggity good!  I sluuuuuuuuurped it up!  I felt like I was being BAAAAAAAAAD to the bone!

  13. Thank you. This was delicious.

FYI- I added the ingredients to MyFitnessPal and got 205 Calories (with 1 tbsp of honey).

  14. i added a tbsp of almond butter and a bit of maple syrup ;)
Didn’t manage to get the oats ground enough this time though.

  15. Can’t have almond milk, can I use 1% milk instead?

  16. Oatmeal cookie dough is my favorite, and I love this skinny smoothie option to get the flavor without the guilt. I made it on my blog and loved it!! Thanks for sharing!

    • Thanks Kelli, we’re so glad you liked it — and thanks for sharing the recipe on your blog too, it’s super cute btw!

  17. That smoothie looks delicious. During the summer I tend to have almond milk berry smoothies, but this looks like a great idea for when the berry season is over. I am definitely pinning this recipe.

  18. I’ve made this a couple times, I love it! I’ve been using cinnamon spice instant oats though, so I just use less of the added sugar and spices. Sooo good! ?

  19. This was AMAZING! I used cooked oatmeal ( I cook a few servings on the weekend and have in the fridge made for whenever the mood strikes me to add them!) & I added a scoop of vanilla protein powder and hemp hearts. I will DEFINITELY be having this one often! Thanks for the great recipe!

  20. Love this recipe! I used a low calorie shake mix with it for added nutrients.

  21. Es bueno para bajar peso y bariga y para el estreñimiento y para el cholesterol. Lo voy a hacer.!

  22. What can you use in place of banana.  I can’t have them.  :(

  23. I make a similar smoothie with peanut butter, banana, Almond milk, Oatmeal and ice to thinken it up a bit. OH So Nummy!!

  24. Just made this – it’s so amazing compared to other oatmeal smoothies I’ve tried in the past!! I mixed in protein powder and a bit of low fat yoghurt for my post-workout smoothie. Yum yum :)

  25. Sub for a banana allergy?

    • Hi Sara! We would use yogurt in place of the banana — it will help create the nice thick consistency that you get with the banana. We hope this helps and that you enjoy!

  26. SO GOOD! This is a very favorite!!

  27. This. Is. Awesome! I fell like I just had liquid cookies for breakfast!

  28. This was great! I added about a table spoon of peanut butter! YUMMY! My hubby says: “you better know how you made this so you can do it again!

  29. This.is.delicious! And so quick! And so healthy! I made mine minus honey and it was perfect! I will totally be making this again soon. It’s morning right now but I can definitely imagine enjoying this for dessert. Thank you!

  30. I am in love with this smoothie – have made it every day for breakfast this week!! :) I can’t stop thinking “how is this not bad for me?” Haha

  31. Wow! This was incredible. Tasted rich and decadent yet it’s a healthy breakfast or dessert. I make smoothies all the time and consider myself a bit of a smoothie snob so I wasn’t expecting to love this. However, it made a very nice change from the berry and fruit smoothies I typically make.

Thank you so much for the recipe. I’ve been reading your blog for a while but never made a recipe until today when I made this smoothie. Now I’m definitely going to be trying some more of your recipes! Thanks Ali!!!

  32. So delicious you’d never know it’s a lighter version! Yum!

  33. Added some peanut butter and chocolate protein powder! So delicious and filling!

  34. Hayley, this looks fantastic! Can’t wait to give it a try.

  35. Oh my goodness, this is yummy! I left out the vanilla extract because I used vanilla almond milk. I also left out the ground ginger, simply because I didn’t have any on hand! And it was out of this world! I will try adding PB next time to thicken it up, as I like my smoothies on the thick side. But this is hands down one of the simplest, yet tastiest smoothie recipes ever! Great for breakfast AND dessert!

  36. I was actually looking for a recipe that I could use oat flour for. Since oat flour is just ground oats I’m going to try them in this smoothie recipe. Thanks for the idea!

  37. It was very tasty but I am wondering how many points I just drank on the blue plan?

  38. What bran of old fashioned oats do you use??

  39. This was delicious! Quick and easy to make made it that much better. A healthier option to help curb my cravings for sweets without regretting it later on. If you’re reading this, you should make it. Enjoy!

  40. I make this often very good and sometimes add peanutbutter ot more fruit. This is great finally a smoothie without any dairy

  41. This was yummy. Next time I make it I am going to skip the honey. I didn’t think it needed it and was plenty sweet with the banana for my taste.

  42. Truly amazing! I was skeptical but it really does taste like homemade oatmeal cookies! I added some chia seeds as well.

  43. I used oat milk instead of almond milk and it was delicious!

    • Oh and instead of honey I used a 1/2 tsp of coconut sugar (I like the taste with cookies so I felt this was a good choice) and I loved it.

  44. This is amazing! We love it.

    • Have been making this for years now since I found your recipe. It’s amazing. I use whatever oats happen to be in the kitchen and it’s always phenomenal. Perfect quick breakfast when rushing to work in the am.

  45. So delicious! Instead of using honey and raisins, I used two medjool dates for the sweetness AND little pieces of caramel-y goodness. Also, since I was making this in a NutriBullet, I skipped the step of grinding the oats. This recipe will be on repeat frequently! Thank you.

  46. Simply delicious and filling!! I added 2 tablespoons almond powder and it made just thick enough. Although it did add calories, it was more filling this way for me :)

  47. So dang gooooooooodddd!!!!!

  48. I was curious too. Here’s what I found:
    Approximately:
75 calories per 1/4 cup of oats
105 calories for 1 medium banana
40 calories 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
60 calories in 1 tbsp honey

    Sum= Approximately 280 calories

  49. Milkshake, not a smoothie. You have one fruit?
