Training for the 3-Day (60 mile) Walk for Breast Cancer!
That’s right! I’m excited to announce that this first giveaway of the year is actually sponsored by Reebok, who has actually just released a sweet new line of EasyTone shoes and apparel (check it here), and are encouraging everyone to share their own ideas for making ’11 a healthier new year. I admit that I’ve never been great with New Year’s resolutions (case in point — hoped last year to learn to crochet/knit, but all I have to show for it is half of a potholder!! :S), but I do have a few hopes of my own for this year…
My main goal is to get a little more disciplined with strength training. As many of you know, I’m a huge fan of walking (partly because of the health benefits, partly because I find it a natural and therapeutic form of exercise, and partly because I’ve now recruited a bunch of friends to be walking buddies) — usually log at least 3-4 miles/day.
Unfortunately, I’m pretty inconsistent with anything beyond that. But I know that strength training is the key to just about everything, and my personal trainer friends tell me that even 5 minutes a day can make a huge difference. So, ahem – hear me now. My hope for the year is 5 minutes less a day staring at a computer, and at least 5 simple minutes getting stronger. Whoo! :)
What about you? What area of health and wellness is your focus area for this year? Is it some sort of physical exercise? Healthier eating habits? Seeking a little less stress and mental wellness?

My soon to be 18 yr old daughter has encouraged me to begin the Zumba workout with her. I also removed my desk chair in my bedroom and am now sitting on a very large exercise ball as my chair :) All sugary drinks have been removed from my diet and I am vowing to drink water, coffee, and unsweet tea. Spinach is my new friend.
I will focus on eating more greens.

I wish I had tips to share, but this is one battle I have yet to win. I’m still trying to become fit and be consistent with an exercise program. I never give up though.
plan on getting more sleep, I’m getting rid of cable-and my beloved DVR-no more late nights watching HBO in bed early every night. I plan on walking to work, and eating fresh fruits and vegetables every day. I also plan on taking a good multi vitamin every day.

I’ve been cutting back on portions with help of an appetite suppressant and I’m losing weight. My goal in 2011, if it ever warms up, is to fit more exercise and regular walks into my schedule.
I am going to walk more regularly.. I’m already making good progress!
I must…
* Go back to eliminating most dairy from my diet. It’s bad for my waistline and my joints (eating it gives me arthritis flares). But I LOVE cheese :(
* Be more active. I always get myself excited about working out, psych myself up the night before “YEA! Tomorrow, I’m going to do -this- and -this- and -this-!” But like tonight, by the early afternoon I lose steam, and by evening I say “eh, I’ll start tomorrow…” and order a pizza! NO MORE!
I need to get back to sticking with fruits and veggies as my snacks.
I haven’t made any resolutions but I truly would like to add exercising to my daily routine. I’m way too old to expect my body to handle all life throws me without some help from me. So I want to add something related to exercise every day even if it is small.
I plan on walking a lot more this year.

I started a new job in September and they have an amazing work out room. I don’t get to work out every day but even if I can go for a brisk walk on the treadmill or go up and down the 3 flights of stairs several times a day, I notice that I feel so much better and am more energized to get through the rest of the work day.
I hope to exercise more and eat healthier.
drink more water and do yoga

I plan on making 2011 a healthier year by exercising three times a week (I joined a zumba class) and by getting more sleep (at least 7 hours each weeknight)! :)

I hope to be more active, using my exercise bike more often.
I want to lower my stress by changing the nature of one relationship, and do better with seeing the doctors I should.
Great post. I need to work on strength training as well; I have cardio down but now that I am over 40 I really need to pump up my muscles!
I will walk the dogs a mile a day.
My goal for 2011 is to also increase my activity. Last year worked on nutrition and lost weight. Now need to tone and increase strength. Going to add those resistance bands, that have been lying around for awhile, and walking.
I will be cutting down on a lot of junk food!
