This air fryer green beans recipe turns out perfectly each time and can be on the table in just 15 minutes!

We can’t stop making these air fryer green beans! ♡

They’ve become an absolute staple in our weeknight dinner routine lately — easy to make in 15 minutes total, perfectly tender in the middle, and irresistibly crisp and golden around the edges every time. I always used to roast green beans in the oven, but the air fryer version is faster and easier. And honestly, just as delicious every time.

I highly recommend using French green beans (haricots verts) here, since they cook quickly and stay extra delicate, but regular green beans work just as well if that’s what you have on hand. We most often make ours simply with salt, pepper, and a hint of garlic powder, but you can absolutely play around with other spices to make them your own. However you choose to season them, air frying is the way to go!

Tips for Success

Step-by-step instructions are included in the recipe below, but here are a few extra tips to make sure that things turn out perfectly each time:

  • Don’t overcrowd the basket. I’ve found that a little overlapping isn’t a big deal with this recipe (a pound of green beans cooks just fine with some slight overlap in my 6-quart air fryer). But if your air fryer is smaller, you may want to divide this recipe into two batches so that the green beans cook more evenly.
  • Adjust the cook time. Every air fryer model runs a little differently, so keep an eye on the beans during the last few minutes. If you prefer extra-charred edges, let them go a minute or two longer.
  • Use French beans (haricots verts) if possible. Their thinner shape helps them crisp up beautifully, but thicker green beans will still work — just add a minute or two to the cook time.
  • Serve right away. Like most fried or roasted vegetables, these beans are at their best and crispiest when they’re fresh out of the basket. But if you have leftovers to reheat, just pop them back in for 2–3 minutes at 375°F until warmed through and crispy again.

Seasoning Options

One of the best things about this recipe is how flexible it can be with seasonings! Here are a few of my other favorite ways to season these green beans:

  • Cheesy: Toss with a handful of freshly-grated Parmesan or Pecorino Romano as soon as they come out of the air fryer.
  • Lemony: Add lemon zest or a quick squeeze of fresh lemon juice before serving.
  • Spicy: Sprinkle on some crushed red pepper flakes or a drizzle of chili crisp for a kick.
  • Herby: Toss the beans with a pinch of Italian seasoning, herbes de Provence, or fresh chopped herbs (like parsley, dill, or thyme).
  • Smoky: A hint of smoked paprika or chipotle powder pairs beautifully with the natural sweetness of the beans.
  • Everything bagel style: Sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning after air frying for a fun, crunchy twist.

FAQ

Can I use frozen green beans? Yes, although the texture will be a bit different. If using frozen, don’t thaw them first — just add a couple of extra minutes to the cook time and expect them to be slightly softer.

Do I need to trim the beans first? I always recommend trimming off the tough stem ends before cooking. Some packaged beans come pre-trimmed (especially French beans), which can save you a few minutes.

How do I make them extra crispy? Make sure to dry the beans well after rinsing, toss them in just enough oil to coat, and avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. Adding a minute or two of cook time will also give you crispier, more blistered edges (which I personally love!).

What’s the best way to reheat leftovers? The air fryer, of course! Just pop them back in for 2–3 minutes at 375°F until warmed through and crispy again. They’ll taste almost as good as freshly made.

Can I double the recipe? Absolutely, just work in batches so the air fryer isn’t too full. If you’re cooking for a crowd, you can keep finished batches warm in the oven (around 200°F) until ready to serve.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound French green beans (haricots verts), trimmed
  • 1 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3–5 minutes.
  2. Season the green beans. In a large bowl, toss the green beans with olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  3. Air fry. Place the green beans in a mostly single layer in the air fryer basket (work in batches if needed). Cook for 8-10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until tender and slightly crisp on the edges.
