With a complete kitchen renovation going on in our loft I have been sifting through our mass amount of kitchen items and finding new ways to organize everything. Something that needed some pretty major attention was our refrigerator. I’m talking about the outside–we won’t get into the inside…that could take days!Somehow every piece of mail that we have received since Christmas has ended up posted on our fridge. I don’t know what made me decide that was a good resting place for it all, but it was looking pretty crazy! In effort to clean up my life a little bit I decided to make some adorable magnets to hang on the fridge. (Hopefully the cuteness will scare off my hoarding tendencies!)

Make the dough:

1.) Mix all three ingredients in a bowl until the dough forms into a ball

Stamp it!

2.) Knead the dough until it is soft and ready to roll out

3.) Flour your surface

4.) Roll dough out to roughly 1/8″ thick

5.) Cut out dough with the shape of your choice–I used a spice lid for mine :) Use what you have I always say!

6.) Feel free to stamp your magnets at this point too!

7.) Place your magnets on a parchment paper lined cookie sheetSalt dough magnets | www.gimmesomestyleblog.com

8.) Bake at 200 degrees for 2 hours

Attach the magnets!

9.) Let dough cool

10.) Hot glue your magnets to the dough

11.) Enjoy!

Tanner and I have a tendency to not know for sure if the dishwasher is clean or dirty so I decided to go ahead and end that confusion once and for all!

I also made up a couple ways to keep track of needed items…

And of course left room for some fun!

  6. I just made these and it was great fun!! I had one question. How did you color the letters after baking??? Thank-you! :-)

  7. Sounds like fun!! Thanks for sharing. I think I will have to try this someday. One question, can you use any kind of markers or paint to color your magnets? Thank you.

    • I would recommend a permanent paint or marker just to prevent any wearing off or bleeding but I think most would work! You could always seal it with some modge podge too!

  8. I used parchment paper but my dough stuck to it:-( HELP!!

  9. Hey Liz!
I have a website / blog that will be up and running in a few days and being that I’m already a huge fan of salt dough, I included a link to your blog post in with a start up sort of post. I’m going to be making a ton of things salt dough in the days to come and I absolutely loved the recipe you have here. I already used the recipe to make gift tags, advent calendar tags, and one batch of simple tree ornaments.

    • Lauren!
I can’t wait to see your blog! Make sure you send me a link to your new site when it is up. I always love a good DIY project! :)

  10. Hi Liz!
Just saw this post tonight. What’s the rough size of the alphabet stamp you used? I found one that had them at about 1 cm but just curious what yours is.

  11. Where did you purchase the letter stamps?

    • I just saw this yesterday and also wondered about the letters since they just seem to matically appear in the tutorial pictures. Today I happened to be in Sur La Table and lo and behold I came upon a set made by Chicago Metallic that seem to be exactly what is shown here. The set is called Cookie Notes and Cutters and has some premade words Happy, Birthday, Welcome, etc. There are also several whole alphabets and additinal “popular” letters.

  12. Very Cute! Just one question: what kind of marker is it that you used to fill in the letters?

  13. 200 degrees Fahrenheit or Celsius?

  14. Hi, this is so cute – thank you for posting. Where can I get the small alphabet stamps?

  15. Are the stamps just regular rubber stamps? I assume they are available at stores like Michaels?

  16. Hi! Might be a stupid question, but just double checking, we’re talking oven heat 200 degrees centigrades right? because Americans usually use Farenheit, i’m not sure~ but then 200farenheit is really low. thanks. this is awesome, ill make some!

    • Hi Mimi! These do bake at a lower temp, so it is 200 degrees F, so for Celsius you would want to bake these at 93 degrees. We hope this helps!
