Guacamummus or Hummamole (Avocado Hummus)

So…what’s a girl to do when gorgeous, big, ripe avocados are on sale during “Hip Hip for Hummus Week”?

Make guacamumus!  Or hummamole!  (Or if you really want to be boring – avocado hummus.)  :)

Whatever you want to call it, this fantastic marriage of my two favorite dips — hummus and guacamole — is definitely a winner.  I went for a good blend of my two favorite recipes, but depending on what ingredients you have around, feel free to play around with the recipe.  You really can’t go wrong.

Hooray for dips that are fun to say, and to eat!

Ali’s Tip:

Feel free to add in the chopped red onion at the end (instead of blending it in the food processor) if you’d like a less strong onion flavor!

  10. OMG, my fiancee and I tried this tonight after finding it today via StumbleUpon. Delicious! Light and fluffy texture and full of flavor. Mnnnnnn. Definitely a recipe we’ll be saving.

  11. seriously a great idea. i made some last night and loved it. took a little bowl of it to work today with a couple of pitas for lunch.

oh, for an extra kick, i added some ground black pepper and one whole japapeno (de-seeded), and a little more lime juice than you suggested. such great, fresh flavors!

  12. I am so tempted to try this because it looks so delicious. Am going to ask my daughter to make it first. No one beats her guacamole. She’s Texas born so it gives her an edge, but she’s the one who turned me on to hummus.

If food looks good, it’s usually good. Very good photos. thanks for sharing.

  13. Hi, i am also a lover of guacamole and hummus, and so i’m going to try that soon ! Thx !

  14. Simple and delicious! You can get this in the supermarket, but the home made version I just made was much yummier! Now, if you’ll excuse me, my guacummus and I have a date with a bag of tortilla chips…

  15. I have made this before when I couldn’t decide which dip I wanted and love it! Plus it looks so pretty!

  16. I made guacamummus for my friends and me this evening. It was a big hit! Thanks!

  17. This is a mexican salsa called guacamole!!! And your recepie is lacking its most important ingredient … CHILE!!!

  18. Ive made guacamole-hummus before. I called it guacamus!

  19. I made this last night and it was delicious! I didn’t have any tahini so I left that out but I added at least 1/4 tsp more salt and squeezed almost an entire lemon into it. Added a bit more kick and tasted awesome! I need to definitely double the recipe next time.

  20. hi, im from mexico, home of this delicious dish and first of all, let me tell you. The real name is GUACAMOLE, its spelled like “whack-a-mole”, second of all, for a real enjoy of this mexican ancient dish u HAVE to put in some chilli and blend together. Thats the point of this sauce. To mix the taste of avocado with the spici feeling of chile.
anyway, u wouldnt stand the spicyness , but add just one or two chiles and try it!!!

  21. Love the idea of this, but the execution wasn’t there. I started with the ingredients exactly as published. It was so dry that it wouldn’t even blend. In stages, I added about 4 tbsp more olive oil. Still, it was really stiff. No idea how you got that creamy photo. Appreciate the inspiration, but won’t make this again. I’ll stick to hummus OR guac and won’t mix the two in this manner. Cheers!

  22. I enjoy you blog very much..informative thank you for sharing.

  23. Funny I would stumble on this page, I just had some store-bought ‘avocado hummus’ last night. It was rather sub-par, and I thought I could make it better myself. I’ll give this recipe a shot. Thanks!

  24. that is the most unique thing i’ve seen in a long time

  25. I like this combo. I would though add a jalapeno to the mix. A bit of spice is always good. ;)

  26. I thought this recipe was amazing. I am new to hummus, and I had it for the first time at a deli. It was roasted red pepper hummus. I was talking to a co-worker of mine and I thought maybe avocado hummus would be really good. I googled for a recipe and found yours. I didn’t have tahini. I did add half a fresh jalapeno. After I processed the hummus, I added about a half a cup of black beans and a chopped tomato. It was delicious and wonderful. Thank you for the recipe.

  27. This sounds like a blending of two wonderful flavors.

  28. THIS was AMAZING!! I made if for lunch. . with some organic corn torilla chips. DOUBLE Yummo!! Thanks for sharing the recipe.

  29. I just made this 10 minutes ago and I am loving every bit of it as well as my family while we watch some football. This is absolutely great!!! Thanks for posting this recipe!!!

  30. I love Chick-peas and Avocado. Your guacahummus sounds like a great idea! Have you tries seasoning cooked chickpeas and roasting them? If not, I predict that you’ll get hooked on them!

  31. This looks really good. I love guacamole and hummus, so I can only imagine what the combination tastes like.

  32. I just made this for a family dinner. one word- AMAZING!!! thanks for sharing :)

  33. Hummus is by far my favorite snack. Ever. I was talking with a friend who recommended Holy Land brand guac hummus. Before I bought any I stumbled upon this recipe and it is fantastic! Afterwards I tried the brand hummus and it was not at all comparable. Everyone in my family loves this recipe. Thank you so much for the post!

  34. Hey there! I wrote down your Guacamummus recipe loooong ago and finally got around to making it! It was delish. Took it to a party and was the hit of the night. What a brilliant idea to combine two of my favorite things, guacamole and hummus.

    Thanks for sharing.

  35. Boy, does that sound yummy!!!

  36. om my too much red onion taste – definitely take the advice of adding it chopped at the end.

  37. new favorite! thanks for such a delicious and easy recipe ;)

  38. How long do you think this would keep in the refrigerator?

  39. I am so in love with this hummus! KEEPER! I can’t resist it and keep going back for more – thank goodness it’s healthy. ;)

  40. yeah, adding a bit of green or red chiles would be good, the beauty of this style of food is that its so flexable, id leave some of the chiles minced for a bit of cruch, same w/ the onion.

i love hummus! w/ chips or bread, or in a sandwich or wrap. beansprout wraps are my favorite.

thanks for such a great version of my favorite food!

  41. Wow, this looks amazing. I love avocado and hummus, this is a match made in heaven. I’ll be making this for sure :)

  42. Totally need to try this. Think this will be getting made next time we have company.

  44. Made this today and loved it! I did not have the cumin and did not add nearly as much cilantro or onion because I don’t care for them. I also did not have a food processor so I used this chopper thing which kept it thick. It tasted good thick. I’d make this again.

  45. I make a version of this too. I make it in the blender though – use more tahini – no cilantro (because I also do not care for it) lemon instead of lime and 2 cloves instead of 3 – you add curry instead of cumin and jalapeno too. Just experiment. The key to a great consistency is blending one ingredient at a time and remember to keep to bean juice to add. I eat with naan or make pita wraps.
