My favorite honey beer bread recipe is ultra-easy to make with just 6 ingredients (no yeast required) and tastes so buttery and delicious!
Looking for an easy homemade bread recipe that doesn’t require a packet of yeast?
This honey beer bread recipe is here for you. ♡
If you have never made beer bread before, I’m telling you, bread-baking doesn’t get any easier than this! Simply stir 5 basic ingredients together (flour, baking powder, salt, beer and honey), brush melted butter on top of the batter, and bake until golden. Then — voila! — in less than an hour, the most delicious, buttery, cozy and comforting beer bread will yours to enjoy in no time.
It can be served up with just about any kind of meal, although we’re especially partial to dipping it in soups and stews at our house. It can also be easily frozen and saved for later, if you would like. And it’s also easy to customize with various herbs or a handful of shredded cheese, if you would like.
I have probably made this recipe hundreds of times, and thousands of our readers have made and loved it too. So if you haven’t yet given it a try, I say it’s time! ♡
Honey Beer Bread Recipe | 1-Minute Video
Honey Beer Bread Ingredients:
All you need are 6 simple ingredients to make this honey beer bread recipe:
All-purpose flour: This recipe is total comfort food for me, so I have only ever made it with all-purpose flour.
Baking powder: To help the bread rise.
Salt: I used fine sea salt.
Honey: Which balances out the savory flavors here with the perfect hint of sweetness.
Beer: I typically use an IPA, but just about any kind of favorite beer will work in this recipe!
Butter: Which we will use to grease the pan and brush on top of the bread to give it some extra-delicious buttery flavor.
How To Make Beer Bread:
Alright, here are the basic steps for how to make beer bread — it couldn’t be easier!
Make the batter. Super simple! Just stir together the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl, then stir in the beer and honey until combined.
Add the butter. Pour about half of the melted butter into a 9×5-inch bread pan, and brush it all around to grease the inside of the pan. Add the batter and spread it out in an even layer. Then brush the remaining melted butter evenly on top of the batter.
Bake. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, until a toothpick or knife inserted in the middle comes out clean. Remove and transfer the pan to a wire baking rack and let the bread cool for at least 10 minutes.
Serve. Slice with a bread knife, serve warm and enjoy!
(Detailed recipe instructions and ingredient amounts included in the full recipe below.)
Possible Beer Bread Variations:
Want to customize this beer bread recipe? Feel free to…
Add herbs: Stir some fresh or dried herbs into the batter. (I especially love adding in some fresh or dried rosemary.)
Add garlic: Feel free to also mince a clove or two of garlic and add it to the batter to make garlic beer bread.
Add cheese: Add in a cup or so of shredded cheese to make cheesy beer bread.

This honey beer bread recipe is quick and easy to make with just 6 simple ingredients! See notes above for possible seasonings that you can add in too.
Ingredients
Scale
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon fine sea salt
1/4 cup honey*
1 bottle (12 ounces) beer
1/4 cup butter, melted
Instructions
Preheat oven. Heat oven to 350°F.
Make the batter. In a large mixing bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder and salt until combined. Slowly pour the beer and honey into the flour mixture, and stir until combined.
Add the butter. Pour half of the melted butter into the bottom of a 9×5-inch bread pan, and brush it around to grease the inside of the pan.
Honey: If your honey seems super-thick and does not drizzle easily, I recommend warming it up in the microwave or on the stovetop for a few seconds so that it will mix into the batter more easily.
Is it possible to leave out the honey and just put in cheese?
Hayley @ Gimme Some Oven —
We feel that the recipe needs some sweetness, so we definitely suggest the honey, but you can still add cheese — we think that would be super yummy! :) We hope you enjoy!
This bread was amazing! I used a pumpking beer and it tasted maazing. I’ve never made bread before so I was anxious but it turned out perfect. Thanks for subbing honey so I don’t have to use refined sugar!
Hayley @ Gimme Some Oven —
Thanks, Hilary — we’re so happy you enjoyed it! :)
I baked this a couple of days ago, and it came out wonderfully. Not quite as pretty as yours, but close. I used Stone Delicious IPA for it, but the next time I bake it I will probably use a lager or something that is not quite as bitter, because the bitter flavor stayed in the bread. I am an IPA drinker by preference, but am realizing that it may not be the best for cooking (for me). Definitely a keeper recipe.
This honeybeer bread recipe looks really unique. I don’t think I’ve ever tried this type of bread before, so this would be exciting to eat for the first time. The pictures of this bread look really moist, so I hope that it comes out as soft and moist as it looks.
Hayley @ Gimme Some Oven —
It’s so delicious, Judy (and very moist for sure) — we hope you can give it a try soon! :)
Just made this – insanely easy. Had all of the ingredients on hand anyway. Great texture, perfect crust, nice and dense (in a good way), while being soft and moist. Will definitely make again. I used an IPA and you can really smell it and taste it in there.

Have you ever tried making a gluten free version with GF beer and perhaps a 1 to 1 all purpose GF flour blend? Just curious because this bread sounds so delicious and I’d love to give it a try but due to Celiac Disease, I have to cook and bake all things GF. Converting a recipe to GF isn’t always so easy.
Hayley @ Gimme Some Oven —
Hi Val! Hmmm, we haven’t experimented with a GF version, but we think it’s worth a shot (if you do use GF flour, we would start with a GF AP blend). Let us know how it goes!
Tried this beer bread recipe for the first time the other day. I’ve tried several like. This one was delicious. I made some for gifts and subbed half cup flour for ground oats and added a small amount of brown sugar up the moisture level. Turned out delicious. I used Big Sky Brewing’s Moose Drool brown ale. Sooooooo good!

Thanks for sharing, Katie — we’re so glad you enjoyed it! :)
Love the honey in this but I used sourwood honey and it left a gingerbread flavor in the bread. The store owner did mention that when we purchased it, but forgot her warning until now! Next time, will use wildflower or clover honey!
The instructions say baking soda but the ingredients list says baking powder. Which do I use?
Hayley @ Gimme Some Oven —
Hi Sondra! We’re not sure what you mean, baking powder is listed in both the recipe ingredients and the instructions. No baking soda necessary, just baking powder. We hope you enjoy the bread!
Hello! I had never heard of beer bread until a friend asked if I had ever tried to make it. I quickly went online to find a recipe and came across your site. I made it today with a bottle of Shock Top Belgian White and…it was fabulous! Nice texture, good crust and the taste was wonderful. The beer added a nice yeast-roll flavor and the honey gave the right amount of sweetness. I wouldn’t change anything. Thanks for the recipe :)
Hayley @ Gimme Some Oven —
Hi Sarita! We’re so happy you enjoyed it — thanks for giving the recipe a try! :)
I made this last week to go with my St Patrick’s day dinner, it was awesome. I used all honey and a local beer, “Blizzard of 78” which is an English style brown ale. My husband loved it and so did his girls. Especially his 13 year old. It had to be one of the easiest recipes I have ever made. Thank you for the recipe, now its time to experiment with different beers. We were thinking blueberry beer would be delicious.
Here I am looking for a good beer bread recipe and THANK GOODNESS one of my fave food bloggers has created one! I may have to do a “test batch” today and one with my soup recipe later this week, this looks delightful.
I made this recipe because I needed a quick bread to go with a homemade soup. It’s really easy and good! Makes amazing french toast with the leftovers too. Just don’t let it soak in the egg too long.
Hayley @ Gimme Some Oven —
Thanks for sharing, Gin, we’re glad to hear you enjoyed it!
I am wondering if you could alter this recipe for a cornbread recipe and how one would go about doing that.
Maybe 1/2 of the flour and the other 1/2 corn meal? I am no bread baker but love the taste of fresh bread. I am going to try this recipe, it sound scrumtious.
Hayley @ Gimme Some Oven —
Hi Donna! Hmmm, we haven’t tried that, but we think it’s worth giving it a shot (we would try the 1/2 flour 1/2 cornmeal combo like you mentioned). If you try this, definitely let us know how it turns out! :)
I’ve had your recipe for a few years and it is very easy. I’ve used various favors of beer and have even added finely chopped apple with and apple beer. Yummy to the last crumb!
Made this yesterday and it was wonderful. We ate almost half when we removed it from the pan. The buttery crust had incredible flavor too. Thank you for sharing!
Absolutely delicious and super easy! Thank you very much! And i love that theres no sugar all honey. How do you reccomend making rolls out of this recipe?
I want to make this for a crockpot dinner, but do not have time to bake the bread right before dinner. Wondered if I baked ahead (day before or morning of) and rewarmed if it would still taste delicious. I’ve made this before so I know what it tastes like fresh baked.
Kris —
Beer bread keeps for a few days. I make it all the time just to have around and then reheat a slice or two in the microwave as needed. It holds up well.
I’m just waiting for the bread to finish. The aroma in the house is sensational.
The Cabbage soup is simmering. I made it yesterday and am reheating.
I think your recipes are incredible
The best and very flavourful and fast trick for replacing the yeast. I have adopted some beer into my pancakes as well. Definitely worth baking for the short time it takes. Perfect Instructions and Real Images. Fantastic!

I’m in college, just made it for the first time!! Tastes so great. Turned out perfect.
Thanks for sharing with us, Hunter — we’re so glad you liked it! :)
I LOVE a good beer bread, and this one looks amazing! The honey adds the perfect touch of sweetness. Need to try this soon!
Thanks, Karly! :D

I have some beer that’s been in my refrigerator left from my brothers last visit over a year ago. Do you think this would work?
Hey Terry! We wouldn’t recommend it if it’s been in the fridge longer than 6 months or so — better to get a fresh bottle.

Can I add banana and walnut to the recipe?
We haven’t tried that, so we’re not sure how they would taste in this — you could try though!

Does it matter if the beer is cold or room temperature?
Room temp is probably best. :) We hope you enjoy!
Love this recipe it’s delicious. We don’t use beer but rather Sprite or other lemon lime soda. So good
Thanks, Cheri — we’re so glad to hear that!

Used Blue Moon and orange zest to make a citrus beer bread for a Christmas gift tastes amazing.
Awesome! We’re so happy you enjoyed it! :)
Do you normally eat this as a snack? What do you like to serve with this bread? Thanks.

Excellent and thanks
Regarding sondra’s comment, It says baking soda below the third picture, in the line starting “simply whisk”.
I love this recepie!!! I add rosemary, oregano or italian seasoning and it works perfectly.
We’re so glad to hear that, Valentina!
I wonder how this would turn out in a muffin pan?
We haven’t tried that before, Kristy, but we like the idea! :)
Would this work with a gluten free beer and flour?
We’re not sure Ariana, as we’ve never experimented with it in this particular recipe. If you do though, definitely let us know how it goes!
I made beer bread years ago. This recipe is fabulous. Thanks for posting☺
Sure, we’re so happy you enjoy it, Suzanne! :)
Do you use baking soda or baking powder? The former ingredient is mentioned in the text but the latter is listed in the ingredient list.
Whoops, sorry about that typo! Just fixed it — it should be baking powder. :)

I made this and took to my family Thanksgiving 30 years ago. Everyone loved it.
Very easy and delicious. I reduced the butter because my loaf pan was tiny, but it still tasted great.
Amazing
So yummy! Warm a piece in the morning and put honey on it. You’ll die.
So good. Made with New Castle beer. Very easy.
I want to make this for a crockpot dinner, but do not have time to bake the bread right before dinner. Wondered if I baked ahead (day before or morning of) and rewarmed if it would still taste delicious. I’ve made this before so I know what it tastes like fresh baked.

I made this bread, however I added sauteed jalapeno and colby cheese. On the second batch I added fresh pesto it was awesome.
