Oh man, I am way late to the adding-oatmeal-to-your-smoothies party.

(Seriously, how did I miss this?!)

But whatever, better late than never because I’ve got an oatmeal smoothie recipe to share with you today that literally tastes just like an oatmeal cookie.  But this one is minus the guilt because it’s made with healthy everyday ingredients, that also happen to be vegan and gluten-free.

I know I’ve never said this before, but you’ve gotta try it.  ;)

I’ve been making this smoothie all week as a little treat after my morning workout, and it feels exactly like that — a treat.

All of the ingredients in it are totally good for you.  But when combined together, they taste like the most decadent sweet dessert, thus also making this one of those smoothies that you could enjoy just about anytime of the day.  Here’s how to make it:

The key to using oats in your smoothies is to ground them up first.  Just pop them in your blender and pulse about 3-5 times until they’re nice and smooth.  (It takes 2 seconds!)

Then add in the rest of your ingredients — including the vanilla and spices that will have it tasting extra oatmeal-cookie-ish, and pulse until smooth.

The result will be one delicious smoothie that will give you lots of fiber and energy to get through the day.  And it can even satisfy those cookie cravings if you’re looking for a healthier alternative.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

  1. Adding oatmeal to smoothies is my favorite…AND it tastes like a cookie? You are my favorite ever. Pinned!
Also I love that you used two different backgrounds…it’s fun to have different visuals!

  2. Oh my heck! Can’t wait to try this! :)

  3. Frozen bananas are the KEY to a creamy, sinful tasting smoothie. I swear by them…so good!!

  4. I like the cookie/smoothie part, because that means it’s totally healthy and I can have 2 : )

  5. Ha! I just made something similar! Love it!

  6. I am SO taken with this idea – breakfast tomorrow now officially sorted.

  7. This is my kind of smoothie! This is a perfect post-workout snack!

  8. I am late to the adding oatmeal to your smoothie party too! I never thought of that. A cookie smoothie sounds like the perfect breakfast!

  9. Oooo, Can’t wait to try this one Ali!

  10. Just made for breakfast–soo good! First time adding oats to my smoothie too and I don’t think I’ll go back!

  11. Yum, yum YUM! I am even later to the party on adding oatmeal to a smoothie, I’ve wanted to try it though. I happen to have all these ingredients on hand at the moment. Hmm, I’m thinking I’m gonna give this a try this morning. : )

  12. Hi Ali, this looks really good, this is something that I could drink everyday.

  13. I am so going to try this tonight! And maybe tomorrow morning too! Will totally give you all of the credit!

  14. Smoothies are my favorite post-workout breakfast. I will definitely be trying this one out this week! Sounds soo good!

  15. This looks delish!

  16. This looks great, but I’m allergic to bananas. Can you suggest an alternative that would mimic the texture of the bananas? What about PB2?

    • Avocado would probably work, but might have to increase the sweetener. PB2 wouldn’t have the volume or creaminess, I don’t think.

    • I’m also allergic to bananas and was wondering if frozen peaches would be a good substitute? I will have to give it a try after I go grocery shopping.

    • The peaches would definitely give off a much stronger flavor. If you don’t mind that, go for it. Otherwise, I recommend substituting in avocado or Greek yogurt.

  17. YUMM!!! Do you think I could use soy milk instead of almond milk?

  18. I will give this a try. Any suggestions for replacing banana as I am allergic. Also how about calorie content numbers? Thanks.

    • You could substitute in one avocado (peeled and pitted). And calories can be calculated at myfitnesspal.com. Good luck!

  19. Oh man, these skinny smoothies look incredible, Ali! I love the oatmeal cookie flavor… definitely a fave!

  20. I somehow missed oatmeal addition to smoothies as well. I bet it tastes great. Trying this tomorrow morning.

  21. PRINT!!! thanks!

  22. Well I am on the late train with you as far as adding oatmeal to smoothies. Huh? But I do love oatmeal and slip it into lots of dishes. I am going to have to give this a whirl — in my blender of course.

  23. Looks amazing!! Question though…I’m not a banana fan, can you taste the banana in the smoothie or is it more for texture/thickness?

    • Avocado can be a good substitute for bananas. Or if you eat dairy, Greek yogurt. And the banana is mostly in there as a thickener.

  24. I’m 110% behind any smoothie that tastes like a cookie but is still good for me!! Gorgeous.

  25. I have never like the texture of oatmeal smoothies BUT blending the oats up first is the best.idea.ever! Thanks so much for the inspiration. Pinned :)

  26. Seriously could smoothies get any better than tasting like a cookie?! I’ve been making green smoothies, but if I could swap a cookie for a cookie-flavoured-smoothie once a day then I’d spend the rest of the day feeling pretty darn virtuous.

  27. I’ve totally been meaning to hop on the oatmeal smoothie train as well but just haven’t gotten around to it. I can’t WAIT to try this!

  28. This was very good! Love the little kick of cinnamon. I don’t feel the blending of the oats separately is a necessary step. I always use oats in my smoothies and never have blended them alone first, so it might just be an extra step that may not be worth taking. I know my time in the morning is valuable..every second counts. Great recipe thanks for sharing.

  29. with Spring on it’s way I am totally into the smoothie game right now – love this!

  31. This looks delicious! I’m sure adding oats to a smoothie makes it so much more filling…must try!

  32. How many calories is this? And the rest of the nutritional facts? Please update. Thank you.

  33. Made this for breakfast this morning…♥ it! If I weren’t in the process of losing weight I’d have it a few mornings a week. I am going to try it with some protein powder.

  34. Started making this smoothie this morning, ground up the oatmeal, only to reach for a banana and found out I didn’t have any. Will have to try when I’ve got some in the house!

  35. This looks delicious and packed full of protein. I had to share on my weekly faves post. Thanks for posting!

  36. Just made this with a few modifications. So yummy and my kids loved it too(2 and 4 years old). Started making it and realized we were out of bananas, so I used frozen peaches. I also had to sub almond extract in place of vanilla extract. Lastly, I added spinach, as smoothies are the best way to get veggies in my 2 year-old. Even with the modifications, it definitely tasted like an oatmeal cookie. New favorite!! I chose to add the raisins, as well. Thanks for the recipe!

  37. Looks good, what substitute can I use in place of a banana as I am allergic—- or can I omit this “fruit” option altogether?
    Thank-you.

    • Avocado can be a good substitute for bananas. Or if you eat dairy, Greek yogurt. Or you can omit it all together, although the smoothie will be a bit runnier.

  38. Do you have the calorie/nutrition info? If not, I can figure it out, just wondered. It looks delicious, can’t wait to try and experiment with this.

  39. I haven’t tried adding oats to a smoothie yet, but you’ve sold me on the idea! I have some bananas on the counter that are destined for the freezer. This smoothie is happening soon.

  40. This is so delicious!!! Thank YOU for sharing! I thought it might be slimy with oatmeal in it but it wasn’t! It is soooooo GOOD!

  41. Just found this on pinterest..can I use skim milk rather than almond milk?

  42. I’ve been on a smoothie kick, too!! Having fun developing all kinds of fun combos- I will totally try this! I may try to add some pecans or some almond butter or some Greek yogurt to up the protein since we need high-protein breakfasts around here. Will let you know how that goes!

  43. Made this for breakfast this morning! SO YUMMY! I was out of almond milk so I put in greek yogurt instead (made it a bit thicker but still worked) and added spinach. SO SO GOOD! Thanks for the recipe!

  44. Just added this to dinner tonight and it was amazing. I’ve never done oatmeal in my smoothies and my husband and I are instant fans!
