Date night with this cutie at our new favorite spot (see below).

Admiring every page in this new cookbook. My friends, Jeanine and Jack, absolutely outdid themselves.

Catching up (years late, I know) on the final two seasons of Downton Abbey. And um, wow, I forgot what a total soap opera it is! But still, loving every minute, and obsessing as always over every single one of Lady Mary’s dresses.

Burning this yummy candle every day. (And may have actually bought up a few extras, just in case it ever goes out of stock.)

Reading this classic for book club. Fascinating.

Loving this simple silk tank, now that it’s finally warm enough to wear it outside. So classic and comfortable.

Obsessed with this hidden jewel of a restaurant that we just discovered in KCK. $1 (ultra-fresh) oysters on Tues/Thurs plus chips and salsa and margs plus some of the best seafood dishes in town? Kansas City, you’ve gotta go.

Wishing I had bit the bullet and bought this bluetooth speaker years ago. I finally did, and now I can listen to my music and Trevor Noah and the aforementioned Downton Abbey over the clang of my pots and pans in the kitchen!

Drinking this cab sauv, and marveling the story behind it. (See #5 on the list!)

Making plans for a last-minute trip to Chicago next weekend with Barclay to visit my sis and her hubs, and I already can’t wait to eat at XOCO and ride bikes on the lakefront trail and drink coffee at Intelligentsia and have my AP-art-history-teacher sis take us for our usual awesome tour around the art institute. Any other recommendations for new places to visit and eat??

  1. Hi!  Not sure if you’ve been to Chicago recently, but you have to visit Eately!  And I know you live in BBQ heaven down there in KC, but Chicago Q has fantastic BBQ.  For brunch, try Yolk (I believe there are a few of them through the downtown area).  Enjoy! :)

  2. That cookbook looks awesome, I’ll have to check it out!

    Thanks for sharing!

  3. If you like pizza check out the Chicago Pizza and Ovengrinders Co in Lincoln Park! It’s amazing!! You usually have to wait, but it is so worth it!!

  4. So much to eat & drink & do in Chicago it’s hard to narrow it down!
Best patio has to go to Parson’s Chicken & Fish: ping-pong, excellent fried chicken, alcoholic slushies, and they know their fish too. The Winchester is also a must go, always rotating seasonal, off-the-beaten path deliciousness. Super over-the-top-fun tiki experience at Lost Lake: hopefully they’ll be up & running again this weekend! Great brunch at Whisk & Homeslice. Can’t go wrong with shopping around Damen/Milwaukee… I love everything at Gather (on North Ave)!

  5. Totally agree about the cookbook. It’s SOOO good!

  6. Thanks for the cookbook rec! I highly recommend Pequod’s Pizza for the best deep dish pizza (the crust is caramelized and amazing).

  7. I took my mom to Chicago last summer to celebrate her birthday. We loved Art Smith’s Table 52.  Southern food with an artistic twist. It’s small, but has a great vibe.

  8. Great post!  I’ve ordered the candle…it sounds delicious, and will look for 19 Crimes tomorrow  Thanks :)

  9. Fresh Oysters in KC?  Fresh oyster crackers I’ll bite on.  Those things are date stamped.  Best eaten the same day opened.  How can it be -17 with 85% humidity in winters I recall.  Times obviously have changed.  Global warming?
