Green Detox Smoothie

Oh my goodness, it feels so good to be home.

My time in Europe these past few weeks was such a gift, and filled to the brim with so many wonderful memories with friends. But between the six-course meals each night on the Mediterranean cruise, paella in Spain, and pub food galore with friends all over England, I think it’s safe to say that I probably ate more carbs (and specifically, potatoes!) in the past month than ever before!

So upon returning home, my friend Sarah and I thought it would be fun to try going “raw” for a week. Nothing cooked, no caffeine, no alcohol — just straight raw ingredients, which mostly includes fresh produce and nuts. I will post a summary of how it went at the end of this week, and then I’m also planning to share some of the recipes next week.

However, the first “detox” smoothie that I made yesterday was too good not to share right away! I love green smoothies, but this one may be one of my new favorites. It is sweet and simple, but packed with all sorts of healthy goodness that I loved. No arm-twisting necessary to enjoy this green smoothie for a meal!

And for you smoothie lovers, don’t forget to enter our Smoothie Giveaway happening right now, where we are giving away a Blendtec and more great smoothie goodies!

  3. I too have felt the effects of over-eating thanks to the holidays. I’ve thought about going on a raw diet for a week so I’m excited to see how you manage! Definitely will be trying this drink in the near future :).

  4. This looks scrumptious! I love my caffeine and glass of wine so it would be tough for me to go raw, even for a week… but this smoothie might convince me! Can’t wait to hear your results!

  8. Yum. Trying a version with kiwi, spinach, banana and protein powder for lunch…I’ll let you know how it goes! Don’t forget to get your protein during our week ‘o raw fun (says the ever vigilant vegan)! If you want to borrow some Vega powder, lemme know.

  10. I love avocado in my smoothie. But I like spinach as well :)

  11. I LOVE smoothies! I drink them daily. This is a great recipe. I usually add in my green smoothies spinach, peaches with coconut milk and agave. I have never tried this variation before so I am anxious to try it.

  12. I love it when I have vanilla Sunwarrior powder to add. That+ pb, banana, spinach, and unsweetened almond milk is one of my favorite smoothies.

  25. I juice apples, cucumber, celery, lime, kale or spinach…then blend that with avocado…it’s my favorite and isn’t loaded with fruit like a lot of other smoothies.

  26. hi. i dont have fancy stuff like what you have put. we have the normal apples.pears.carrots.cabbage.sprouts.sqush.parsnips.
what sort of detox smoothie can i make from this please..

  27. I just made this for lunch and it was so yummy. I added a handful of strawberries and apples instead of pineapple since we were out. I’ve pinned it to remember where I found it. Thanks for sharing!

  28. I loved this smoothie!! I also tried it with peaches instead of the pineapple and it was still good!! Thanks for sharing!

  29. Where did you get those cute straws? And how does the Blendtec compare to the VItamix?

  30. Is that 1 serving? I just made it, and it is delicious, but it does make
    a lot.

  31. how is the detox process? am I supposed to eat only the smoothy for 3 days? how many times? please advise..thanks

    • Check out Dr. Oz 3 day detox. You may want to do that one but change the lunch drink (its nasty) to this drink.

  32. I do not want to buy chia seeds but Flax Seeds by Bobs red mill should work as well right?

  33. Where did you get your tumblers?

  34. Love your smoothies, I am totally a smoothie person and I thrive on them, as well as my hubby and I get everyone I can hooked on smoothies. ;)

  35. How many calories in 1 cup?

    • Hi Melanie,

I don’t calculate calories on the site, but you can plug them in at myfitnesspal.com.

  36. I LOVE a good green smoothie! I always put spinach in mine and I’m particularly fond of almond butter and almond milk in there too. This one sounds delicious! Thanks for sharing!

  37. Mmmm, this looks like my kind of smoothie! Thanks so much for sharing this simple and easy recipe, Ali! :)

  38. This recipe is for just one person?  At what time do you take it?  Breakfast,  lunch or at night?  Does it replace one meal?  How many days do you take it to show results? Thanks for the answers.

    • Hi Maria, this recipe makes about 4-5 cups, so about two good-sized servings. It’s not really meant to be a meal replacer — we like it for breakfast some mornings (or with breakfast, because it doesn’t have much protein), or as a healthy snack. We hope you enjoy!

  39. I make this smoothie all the time, tho I add a cup of spinach and about 3 celery sticks;  whole. It’s perfect for breakfast; and yes a meal replacement. 1tbs of Chai seeds equals 1 egg so the equivalent to what you’d eat for breakfast measures out,  with tons of minerals and vitamins to boot! My son loves it, a favorite in this house!

    • Thanks for sharing Amanda — we’re so glad you and your son enjoy it! :)

  40. Is it ok to sieve the smoothie after blending.. kindly advice. Thanx for the receipt.

    • Sure! Its not necessary, but you can do that if you like — we hope you enjoy!

  41. This was insanely good! Best smoothie I have probably ever made. I’m not normally a huge fan of ginger but it was tasty in this.

  42. The best you have to try it
