This 3-ingredient Piña Colada recipe is quick and easy to make, it includes zero added sweeteners, and it’s as refreshing and delicious as ever.
If you like piña coladas… ???
…but maybe don’t like them knock-your-socks-off-syrupy-and-sweet, then this may just be the perfect piña colada recipe for you.
For years, I’ve had a tradition of ordering a piña colada anytime I find myself near a beach. Because, as a born-and-raised Kansas girl, you’d better believe that beach time always calls for maximum celebrating, even in the most predictably touristy of cocktail ways. Cutesy umbrellas adorning my drink? Bring ’em on. Colorful bendy straws? You bet. A few dollars extra to have my cocktail served up in a ridiculously enormous fresh pineapple? Not even one bit ashamed. Piña coladas are my happy vacation cocktail, and I’m in it for no less than the full experience. ?
That said though, as much as I adore the combo of fresh pineapple and coconut in piña coladas, most poolside-bar versions that I’ve been served are also usually filled with heaps of added sugars and preservatives, thanks mostly to the classic “cream of coconut” (different than coconut cream) that’s traditionally mixed into piña coladas. Neither sugar nor preservatives, of course, being my jam. And also neither of which, I would argue, are needed at all to make a good piña colada! As a matter of fact, your cocktail will taste infinitely better without them.
Thus, today I’m excited to present to you my favorite piña colada recipe.
It’s made with 3 simple ingredients — frozen pineapple, rum and coconut milk. It only takes a minute or two to blend up. It contains zero added sweeteners (trust me, the pineapple and coconut milk already make it plenty sweet). And it is guaranteed to give you those delicious, beachy, sunny vacation vibes wherever in the world life may find you.
Let’s make some!
How To Make A Piña Colada | 1-Minute Video
Piña Colada Ingredients:
So what’s in this easy piña colada recipe? No cream of coconut (such as Coco Lopez or Coco Real), no storebought piña colada mix, no sugar-added pineapple juice…no need. To make these naturally-sweetened piña coladas (which also happen to be naturally gluten-free and vegan), you will simply need:
Frozen pineapple: A bag of it store-bought, or you can cut and freeze your own.
Rum: White rum is traditional, but any kind will do.
Coconut milk: As in normal, straight-from-the-can (or carton) coconut milk. You can either use the full-fat or light coconut milk, your choice.
Then of course, you’re welcome to garnish with a slice of fresh pineapple, a maraschino cherry on top, paper umbrellas, straws…get as carried away as you’d like. No judgement here. ;)
Also, if you are looking for a non-alcoholic virgin piña colada recipe, you’re welcome to just nix the rum and maybe just add in a bit of extra pineapple juice or water to help the mixture blend.
How To Make A Piña Colada
To make this frozen piña colada recipe, simply combine all of your ingredients together in a blender and puree until smooth! If the mixture is too thick, feel free to add in a little extra water. Otherwise, it should be a breeze!
This 3-ingredient Piña Colada recipe is quick and easy to make, it includes zero added sweeteners, and it’s as refreshing and delicious as ever.

3 ounces (1/3 cup) white rum
2/3 cup coconut milk
optional garnishes: fresh pineapple slices, maraschino cherries, cute paper umbrellas

Serve immediately, topped with your desired garnishes.
Ya know, this may be the world’s simplest receipe yet, still authentic…mmmm l can smell and taste it already,l can’t wait to drag my blender out, I’ve been searching for a simple pina colada, that’s creamy, and not too sweet. Thank you so much Kansas girl!?
It’s 2020 and this is still the best recipe of this I’ve found. Have made this 3 times. So simple and straightforward. Indeed tastes like you’re on a tropical vacation in the Caribbean. Frozen pineapple chunks made this thick so indeed a bit of water helped! I garnished with dried shredded coconut. It’s excellent.
I found that a small tweak – swap unsweetened coconut milk in, reduce to 10 ounces pineapple chunks instead of a pound, and about 1/8th cup of simple syrup – made exactly one tall glass at the perfect sweetness. For me, anyhow :).
Also fitted as one drink into a “personal” smoothy maker.
Nope, will not make again. Refreshing, yes…Piña Colada, definitely not. Should probably look into changing the name of your recipe to 3 ingredient pineapple/coconut smoothie.
Soooo yummy! I have to say that when I find myself low on some ingredients I have just used pineapple juice, coconut rum, and half & half. Not as luxuriously thick but great flavor none the less!!! Thanks!
Wow. I made them this week. Little Difference then posted recipe but it came out awesome. So my wife is dairy free she had dairy free coconut milk, I use pineapple juice and rum. Very little splash of Malibu. I didn’t even blend it I shook it with ice and my god I’ll never make them a different way. #10 out of 10

All coconut milk is dairy free: it comes from coconut, not cows!
We made this with fresh pineapple and added a little coconut creme with ice cubes (because we were too patient to wait on the pineapple to freeze and that’s what we had) and we added a little more rum. It was perfection. Thank you for an easy/amazing drink!
This looks like what I used to do to make “virgin pina colada” without the rum. I cultivated a preference for that flavour which continues even if I add rum. As others have said, it’s not an “actual” pina colada, but it satisfies the flavour profile enough to be tasty.
Made according to the recipe and it was too thick and all I could taste was rum. I blended in about a cup of pineapple juice and it was perfect. This is not your typical sweet frozen cocktail since the coconut milk is unsweetened, but I prefer it that way.

Omg delicious! Takes a lot of pineapple, but it’s all worth it for unwatered down satisfaction!
Needs to be a little sweeter so I added pineapple juice also….but it’s better with coconut rum instead of regular rum.
Sounds wonderful can’t wait to make it!
I’ll be picking up some frozen pineapple later today!!!
Far too much pineapple for the amount of coconut milk. Suggest starting with half the pineapple and adding more as needed.
I love options. Of fruit and vegetable

Too easy to be so delicious! My new favorite recipe. Cheers! ?
Seriously super delicious!!!!!
I think the coconut milk makes the drink. So does the coconut rum!!!
Can I use almond milk instead of coconut milk?
I made it for a house party and everyone loved it! Amazing recipe, thank you for sharing it!!

Absolutely Delicious!!! Any tips on increasing the rum, without making it too watery?
After pouring, we added a dark rum “float” on top of each serving.
Use the best pineapple! It makes an amazing difference.
Pina colada? Not really… But it’s a refreshing smoothie that can get you buzzed.

I made this months, maybe years, after finding your post. it literally came together in minutes, and it’s so refreshing on this hot summer day in NY!
This is my only pina colada recipe! Tasty and easy and everyone loves them. Thank you so much
