Training for the 3-Day (60 mile) Walk for Breast Cancer!

That’s right! I’m excited to announce that this first giveaway of the year is actually sponsored by Reebok, who has actually just released a sweet new line of EasyTone shoes and apparel (check it here), and are encouraging everyone to share their own ideas for making ’11 a healthier new year. I admit that I’ve never been great with New Year’s resolutions (case in point — hoped last year to learn to crochet/knit, but all I have to show for it is half of a potholder!! :S), but I do have a few hopes of my own for this year…

My main goal is to get a little more disciplined with strength training. As many of you know, I’m a huge fan of walking (partly because of the health benefits, partly because I find it a natural and therapeutic form of exercise, and partly because I’ve now recruited a bunch of friends to be walking buddies) — usually log at least 3-4 miles/day.

Unfortunately, I’m pretty inconsistent with anything beyond that. But I know that strength training is the key to just about everything, and my personal trainer friends tell me that even 5 minutes a day can make a huge difference. So, ahem – hear me now. My hope for the year is 5 minutes less a day staring at a computer, and at least 5 simple minutes getting stronger. Whoo! :)

What about you? What area of health and wellness is your focus area for this year? Is it some sort of physical exercise? Healthier eating habits? Seeking a little less stress and mental wellness?

  6. I resolved to eat better and exercise more loooonnng ago, and of course, have had uneven results. Been good about getting in three workouts a week but plan to bump that up to 5. And eating better goes hand in hand with saving money…the more I cook and plan meals at home and the less I buy food out, the healthier I feel and it also makes my bank account healthier too,

  7. Continuing to eat healthier and focusing on consistent exercise. I’ll do really well for a couple months then take a month off! That needs to stop!! :)

  8. I plan to continue working on losing the last 5 lb of baby weight from baby #2 by eating breakfast (which I’m infamous for skipping) and trying to switch up my workout routines from week to week.

Thanks for the chance to win!

I am now trying to just eat healthier, and exercise more. I have also signed up for a 5k obsticle course race later this spring, so I have a particular goal.

  13. I need to concentrate on flexibility and strengthening right now, so I’ve started practicing yoga. I’m still pretty much of a klutz, but it’s coming along.

  14. I plan to go to the Dr’s and stop making excuses to not get my routine care done – like mamograms, ect!

  16. My focus this year is eating more fruits and veggies, and less processed foods.

  24. I’ll admit I’m not a great cook, but my kids have decided that we must eat healthier and have started scouring recipe websites and pulling recipe’s they think they will like and we all shop for the items on the list they create. We feel like adventurer’s every day!

  28. 0000000000000000000I will try and eat much ealthier this year, plus do more excercising, while I have my calorie counting

I plan on making 2011 better and healthier, by managing my pain level, which will indeed let me excercise a bit more each day, and get back to my walking routine. I love to walk, but had to take a break due to recent medical issues, which has indeed made me pack on some pounds. I plan to start walking each day with a buddy, and start eating healthier, which will be better for me in the long run.

  30. I’m going to continue eating healthy. I started this last year and have lost 77lbs so far and I plan to lose much more this year!

  31. My big thing this year is social health. I have a tendancy to be a real hermit and not get with my awesome friends nearly enough to the point of it being unhealthy. This year, and I have done well so far, I am promising to get with friends more often.

  32. I tweeted here: https://twitter.com/#!/FotoMacro/status/26320649274261505

  33. I need to start walking again. I used to love it, but then I started getting lazy. Here’s to 2011!

  34. My focus this year is on organic living. I want to edit my budget and spending habits to allow me to have more money so that I can afford to do all my shopping at the local Whole Foods and make my meals as organic and natural as possible. This will enable me to eat healthy good foods that I enjoy while losing weight without even really trying just by cutting out all the eating out!

  42. I love that your exercise of choice is walking. It’s something everyone can do, with anyone. I am not big on resolutions.. but this year I’ve made it a point to eat better. cook more. and always try to eat breakfast even if its just yogurt with fruit and granola as I rush out the door.

I’m also working on getting FIT, I run and do yoga, but often find myself making excuses to not run, I think I may incorporate walking, since its a bit harder to say, “i’m too tired to WALK” haha.

    Thank you for the opportunity!

  49. My hope is to exercise on a more consistent basis. Like you, I really enjoy walking; however, it’s hard to get motivated (especially because I need to drive somewhere in order to walk). and, being middle-aged (ouch!), I knew you are right about strength-training. who knows, maybe this is just the incentive I needed.
    Thanks for the giveaway.
