5-Ingredient Fresh Mango Salsa Recipe

One of the things I love best about living in my neighborhood is the almost daily conversations that everyone has about fresh produce.

Nope, not the weather. Fresh produce.

This is entirely due to the fact that we live across the street from the largest outdoor market in Kansas City. On the weekends, literally thousands and thousands of people from across the city pack into our neighborhood to visit the market. But during the weekdays, it is blissfully chill and much quieter. But the other bonus is that all of the weekend’s produce is mega discounted.

So it’s not unusual to walk into the coffee shop in the morning and hear people talking about the $1 huge carton of strawberries they scored the day before and ate for breakfast. Nor is it unusual to pass someone on the stairwell of our loft and have them eagerly tip you off that avocadoes are 2/$1 that afternoon. It makes me adore my neighborhood even more. But last week, pretty sure I was the one texting, Facebook messaging, and telling everyone in sight that for the first time in months, mangoes were on sale!!!  My favorite fruit ever! $4/1! And perfectly ripe and delicious!

So I, of course, came home with 8. And then promptly used a few to make my go-to favorite recipe for surplus mangoes — mango salsa.

5-Ingredient Mango Salsa Recipe

My original photo for this mango salsa recipe from 2014.

I can’t even count the number of times that I have made mango salsa throughout the years. As far as fruity salsas go, it’s easily my favorite. And whenever I serve it to a crowd, others apparently share the love because it always disappears in a snap.

I took it to my neighbor night gathering last week when we were celebrating Seis de Mayo (yes, extending the Cinco de Mayo Mexi food extravaganza as long as possible). And before I hardly had a few bites, it had disappeared. Everyone loves mango salsa!

The good news is that it’s also ridiculously easy to make. And if you want to go the minimal route, you can make a fantastic version with just 5 simple ingredients.

5-Ingredient Mango Salsa Recipe Ingredients

Fresh Mango Salsa Ingredients:

To make this easy mango salsa recipe, you will need:

  • Fresh Mangoes: Nice and ripe, and diced to your desired size. (Feel free to check out my tutorial on How To Select, Peel & Dice A Mango.)
  • Red Onion: Also peeled and finely diced.
  • Jalapeño: For a milder salsa, I recommend using just one pepper, seeded and diced. Or for a spicier salsa, feel free to add two peppers.
  • Fresh Cilantro: Finely-chopped
  • Fresh Lime: Please avoid the bottled stuff — your salsa will taste so much better with fresh lime juice!

How To Make Mango Salsa

How To Make Mango Salsa:

It’s so easy! Simply…

  1. Prep all of your ingredients: The size of your dice is totally up to you. So feel free to make your salsa as chunky or finely-chopped as you prefer.
  2. Combine ingredients: Toss everything together in a mixing bowl until evenly combined.
  3. Taste and season: Feel free to add in some salt and pepper here, or also add in extra lime juice or cilantro if desired.
  4. Serve: Then dive in! Or refrigerate in a sealed container for up to 2 days.

  1. Diggin’ the moving image! I think it’s called a GIF? But, I’m tech challenged, so I’m probably wrong.
my hubby is OBSESSED with mangos, so this is perfect for us! Pinned!

  2. Good golly! Fresh and fast! Loving this mango salsa – thanks Ali!

  3. I love mangoes and whipping up fresh salsas.

The bummer is that I have to wait a little longer, as spring has barely arrived here in Wisconsin.

Can’t wait for the summery flavors!

  4. You had me at 5 ingredients. LOVE that you live so close to your farmers market!!! I want to visit one day.

  5. Ohhh I love this change from the regular salsa, LOVE!

  6. This is gorgeous and sounds delicious! P.S. I love the coordinating nail color ;)

  7. I wish there were mangoes on sale where I am! I’ve been wanting to make mango salsa for a while now. This looks absolutely delicious!

  8. Yum!! I make a variation of this (usually adding tomatoes and avocado) as a side with grilled fish and rice. And I could eat that like… every day!

  9. This looks great but I have to ask if there could be a substitution for the cilantro. My husband is one of the small minority that cilantro tastes like soap.

    • Hi Sophie,

You could omit the cilantro entirely. (And serve it as an optional topping for those who love it.) ;)

  10. I love the city market farmers market! So jealous you go down during the week! I will have to venture down during my meeting breaks at work just so I can get a steal on mangos so I can make this delish salsa!

  11. I could spend 5 minutes typing why I love mangos. But I won’t. I can remember the first time I had a mango salsa, that’s how memorable the dish is to me. But I have never made it. This looks so easy. Excellent.

  12. I am so jealous that you live so close to a fresh market!!! With produce that looks like *that*! Beautiful! This salsa is just the ticket to a meal that screams, “Summer!!!” It looks beautiful!

  13. I am having serious envy of where you live. What a dream to be able to walk over to the Farmer’s Market!! I love fruit salsas and this mango one is so pretty. Love.

  14. I love how easy and flavorful this recipe is! Pinned!

  15. Ali,
What a colorful and joyous dish. I am gonna try this asap.Thanks.

  16. So vibrant and delicious!

  17. I made this last night. I had been in class all day. My husband is a forager in the evenings, (we do not cook dinner during weekdays). It was quick and easy. My husband loved it so much, he took a small container to work to go with his lunch.

    Thank you.

  18. Oh I love ripe and unripe mangoes and definitely would give this a try. I would probably add in some fresh tomato chunks because I love variety of colors for my eyes to feast on.

  19. Yum! Love that your neighbours tell you when fruit is on sale haha. I do that with my friends and they just kind of give me a look and say “…Okay?” Nobody gets me. Love mango salsa, love that your recipe is so simple!

  20. Cannot wait to try these recipes!

  21. Only had mango, onion and lime on hand. Thought I had cilantro, was flat leaf parsley. Still delicious with your slow cooker salsa verde chicken!

  22. Try adding some diced red bell pepper. Goes great with the mango and brings an extra color in there :) (delicious recipe btw)

  23. Paired these with salmon tacos and they were perfect! Thanks for the recipe

  24. Oh man was this a delight.  The salsa was super easy and quick to make.  Also, thank you so much for the link to your tutorial on selecting, peeling, etc. mangos – super helpful!  I will continue making this salsa from now on!

    • Thanks Keisha, that’s so great to hear! We’re so glad you liked this!

  25. In addition to the above 5 ingredients, I add a small amount of finely grated fresh ginger, finely chopped red peppers ( small amount) and EVOO. Very colorful and delicious! I make this every week. I snack on it or put it on my grilled salmon!

    • We’re glad you enjoyed this, Gelila, and we think those additions sound wonderful — thanks for sharing!

  26. Mango Salsa is amazing, and this one looks so delicious. I make this in different variations and my fav one is Mango Salsa with Roasted Bell Peppers. That tastes brilliant.

  27. This is an amazing salsa! So easy, so quick to put together.

  28. I love mangoes. Guess they are my favorites. Lived in south Fla. where they grew in abundance. I would hear them thump the ground and run out and pick them up from adjacent neighbor’s yard. She was allergic to them. My husband made
a huge lot of mando chutney one time during their growing season. So many bottles of chutney. Sooooo delicious!

    • What luck! Living next to someone with a mango tree that’s allergic to them & able to enjoy it’s fruits. Living in Oklahoma I’ve never seen a live mango treee or oranges or lemons. Sounds wonderful.

  29. I made my own version of this! I just added red pepper though and like to make smaller batches.

  30. First time making it and eating it. I love it! My picky hubby likes it too. He is so picky he puts ketchup on enchiladas. I will make this again. I did not have any jalepeno peppers so I improvised with ground coriander.

  31. I add pineapple and avacado instead of the bell pepper…SO GOOD! Always disappears at parties, and it’s awesome on blackened chicken or salmon. YUM!

  32. Just made this to go with some nachos tonight – delicious – and very easy to make. I didn’t have any jalapeños (mainly because I’m a sissy when it comes to heat!!) but did add a few drops of tabasco to add a wee bit of zip. Will definitely make again!!

  33. I made the recipe salsa pretty much following the recipe except I added avocado and a pinch of salt. The salsa is delicious and very much enjoyed. I took one star off because it took me a bit longer than 10 minutes to prep/make the salsa! I don’t know if I’m just slow in the kitchen but you may want to allow for a bit more time.

  34. So tasty!!!

  35. So easy. So tasty. So versatile. We had it on grilled chicken breasts. Another time on grilled salmon. Yum!

  36. it’s great with roasted red pepper and more colorful too

  37. My crowd loved it and I am sharing the recipe ❤️ Made it just the way it is posted and cut small.

  38. Very good. I liked the freshness of it. Because I saw what some other people did I put my own twist on it. I added kiwi’s. I would use a bit less cilantro though.

  39. Does anyone know if this freezes well? I’m thinking of making it and then freezing individual serving sizes so that I’ll have it conveniently available as a topping for other recipes.

  40. Going to put this on Carribean turkey burgers to liven them up – will go well with the spices!

  41. delicious

  42. Made this with pan fried salmon last night—me and my boyfriend loved it! I enjoy the simplicity of these five flavors. It tastes great with even under ripe mangoes and it’s perfect for those warm summer nights ☺️

  43. It was delicious and went perfectly with my pan seared tuna!

  44. Love the mango salsa ,awesome

  45. Easy to prepare, taste fresh and tangy. I served it with Mahi Mahi and it was a hit.

  46. Love this ! It’s so good !!!

  47. Delicious and easy yumm!!

  48. My favorite salsa since I can’t eat tomatoes. I serve it with carnitas tacos on Siete almond flour tortillas. It ‘s good with some strawberries in it, too.

  49. I buy frozen chopped mangoes at Costco. We love this salsa with halibut.

  50. So fresh and summery! Delicious on fish and morning eggs. Whole family enjoyed this recipe a lot.
