I’m ready to dive headfirst into an ultra-relaxing, work-avoiding, party-hopping, sleep-in-ing, sun-soaking, watermelon-stuffing, pool-splashing, 3 day weekend of TIME OFF. So I’m going to keep things short and sweet, and let’s get it.
I spaced off making a red white and blue patriotic recipe in advance for Memorial Day this year. But this one’s heavy on the red, so hey, we’re at least a third of the way there. And with 5 ingredients, there’s zero excuse not to make a batch this weekend.
Of course, chips and salsa are also a course unto themselves in mi casa. So for a gathering with some neighbors the other night, I decided to whip up a simple strawberry salsa recipe to go with a salty batch of tortilla chips. I kept it simple with just 5 ingredients. And the result…?
Well, first off it felt like Christmas in May…
…but the salsa was delightful!
It’s super colorful and pretty, the perfect balance of sweet and spicy and savory, it comes together in less than 10 minutes…
…it’s deliciously scoop-able. Grab a chip and dive in!
Now, that’s interesting. I’m obsessed with strawberries. As you said the season is short so i eat them every single day but now is the first time i hear they can be combined with onion, cilantro and pepper. Definitely should try it. Sounds like a twist from everything i know till the moment. I eat them with bananas and yoghurt and lots of honey :) Sometimes i add apples and throw everything in the blender. I use them to bake cakes and for different toppings. Because of the sugar in them i sometimes i use them when i cook meat in the oven.Would love to see more recipes with strawberries here.
Have a great weekend.
Yeah, I guess you could say I mostly enjoy them in sweet recipes, but I have fun mixing it up a bit, and playing around with sweet and savory flavors. Definitely give it a try! : ) Have a wonderful weekend as well!
I love fruit salsas and this looks fantastic. Have a great weekend!
Thanks, Maryea! I hope you have a great weekend as well! : )
You know what’s the worst? I didn’t even know it was Memorial Day. My Canadian-ness is showing.
But I will happily get all kinds of cozy with this strawberry salsa this week! It’s the time of year for berrying all the things! Pinned!
Haha! Yay, I hope you like it!
Ok, you win. I loose. I’m making this strawberry salsa. Who needs Chipotle anyhow? Not me. Just kidding, sometimes I do.
Haha! Hope you like it, Tom! And oh man, we all need Chipotle…
I would have never thought of pairing strawberries with red onion and jalapeno…but this just looks too good not to try! Pinned!
Thanks, Alexa, hope you enjoy it!
This looks delish!! And Im totally jealous of your “soaking in the sun” weekend. We havent seen the sun in two weeks here!!
Thanks, Nicole! I hope the sun comes out for you soon!!
lately I’ve discovered that the best thing is to put strawberries in a salad to give it a touch of freshness!! Can’t wait to try this salsa :)
Anna, I LOVE strawberries in salads! Especially with goat cheese or feta! : ) Hope you enjoy the salsa
Simple and easy recipe.
Thanks for sharing…. :)
Thanks, Najma! Hope you enjoy it!
This looks amazing! I’m having a barbecue this weekend and I just might have to give this a try!
Thanks, Ali! : ) Enjoy your bbq and you long weekend!
Here in Canada we don’t have Memorial Day, but I can still make this beautiful salsa recipe. I love strawberries and I think it is a great idea to add them in this salsa. I hope you have a great long weekend. Enjoy ;-)
Thanks, Olivia! I hope you love it! : )
I never would’ve thought about making a salsa with strawberries, but I’ll admit it definitely looks delicious! I’ll be picking up some strawberries on my next grocery run to give this a try, thanks Ali!
Now get out there and enjoy your long weekend.
Josh – The Kentucky Gent
Thanks, Josh! Enjoy your long weekend as well!
What an innovative recipe! A great use of strawberries to be sure. For some reason, I’m wanting to add crumbled bacon to it. Actually, I pretty much want to add bacon to everything! I wonder how it would turn out. Maybe I’ll give it a try.
Thanks, Sandra! And I think crumbled bacon sounds like an EXCELLENT idea! Let me know how it turns out, if you do it! My general philosophy is “everything’s better with bacon.” ; )
Oh my gosh that looks delicious! I never thought about using strawberries in place of tomato.
Hope you like it, Stephanie!
Really love the simplicity of this recipe and all of your recipes really. Yummy =)
Thank you! Your site is so cute! : )
Ahh I love fruity salsa! I’m probably the only one in my family who does but I don’t mind eating it all my self. ;)
Thanks, Shawn! Enjoy!
This is unbelievably pretty! Amazing salsa!
Thank you, Amanda!
Can’t do jalapeños – what would you recommend as a substitute?
Hey Becky, do you like other types of peppers? You could do some bell pepper or a more mild pepper. If you de-seed the jalapeños, and rinse them under cold water (and pat them dry), they shouldn’t really have any heat to them. I hope that helps!
YUM! This was such a hit this weekend. We are fans!!!
Awesome, glad to hear that, Roslyn!
Can this be canned? Jars?
Thank you–this was delicious! Just the right for the amount of cooking I felt like doing after a draining weekend :)
You’re so welcome, Brooke, I’m glad you liked it!
I like your recipes.
I absolutely love this strawberry salsa. I thought mango salsa was delicious but this is a lot better. Thank you
Thank you for sharing Guadalupe, we’re glad you liked it! :)
Can you add avocado’s to this as well?
We think that would be yummy Des’ree!
My daughter in law loves this recipe. Is there a way it can be canned? I’ve looked up other recipes for canning strawberry salsa, and they add sugar and vinegar … and cook it – which will altar the flavor, and the nutrition (sugar) …
I’d really appreciate any help I could get with this.
We’re glad to hear that Cheryl! We haven’t tried canning this ourselves, but we’re concerned because it isn’t cooked and doesn’t have vinegar, and because it has fresh cilantro, that this wouldn’t be ideal for canning.
Cheryl, I’d recommend you do a ‘strawberry chutney’ search and check out all the recipes there.
This looks amazing, I will share on my blog today. Only a pic and direct link to your post. Have a great day!
Thank you — we appreciate that!
my brother made this for a family gathering and it is my favorite I want it all the time it’s amazing thanks for your recipe❤
We’re so glad you enjoy it, Natalie! :)
Delicious!!! I added a mango. Everyone rave don’t about it, it was a hit of the party! Will be making it again! YUM!
Delish!! All of my guests commented and of course, how could they not?? Fresh, vegan and exploding with flavor! This recipe was too simple for such complimentary reactions! :) It’s a keeper.
Can this strawberry salsa be made a head of time or the night before the bbq?
We have 3 strawberry patches and have an abundance of fruit this year. What I picked today became strawberry margaritas and then I used this recipe bit added a diced mango and doubled the onion and jalapeno. Oh, WOW! Will be doing this again… SOON.
The strawberry salsa was a hit at our picnic. I did add about 2 tablespoons of honey. Rave reviews!
Hi!! I love this post! How long can you make it up prior to going camping? Thanks again I love it!
Sounds amazing. Can this be waterbath canned?
